I am writing the following on Gaspode, without an internet connection available, so I guess you will be reading it a while after I write it.
Monday 2nd April:
I am sat in my Mother-in-Law's garden, in the shade of a tree and with a blackbird prancing around at my feet showing off to any female that might be around what a good lawn is in his territory. There is also the coaltits, flitting about the garden enthusiastically rebuilding the nest in the nest box.
Yesterday was spent in Brighton, with blue skies and azure seas, and a bracing sea breeze. Timp and his Dad spent the morning on the Bluebell Railway, heckling at the annual Signalman's meeting, before joining us for a late lunch in the scrumptious Food for Friends Restaurant, which we treated his parentals to in honour of their birthdays.
It was quite amusing, Brighton having more provision for ve*gans than many places, walking them past many places that would 'do' towards two places that I knew from prior forays that would more than 'do'. I don't think they could quite believe that the choices I was walking them past could be beaten and kept stopping to point out menus that were adequate, and which in most towns would be the best we could hope for. With this confusion I made the choice for them and went straight to the posher FfF, where they were very soon more than impressed by the choices and portion sizes on offer. For me, there was the main advantage of a wholly vegetarian place rather than an omnivorous place with a vegan option, i.e. a pudding - and in this case a choice of puddings!
Wednesday 4th April:
Still in Essex, enjoying the hospitality of the in-Laws. We are due to leave this afternoon and return home, then to pack for a long weekend wiring carriages on the Ffestiniog Railway leaving tomorrow.
Yesterday we went for a walk in Epping Forest, which was very pleasant. I found it quite surreal to cross the M25 in the 'wrong' direction to go and find a wilderness.
