A small drop of rain fell down on the tip of Rui’s nose, prompting him to look up. “It’s going to rain.” he noted with a sigh, “I need to find him soon.”

Running along the nearly empty sidewalk, Rui’s breathing sped up with his footsteps. He ran and ran.

I’m scared…and lonely…where are you?

Thunder rumbled amongst the ash gray clouds that hung low in the sky. The clouds were threatening dark that day and Rui knew that it would pour anytime. That’s exactly why he had to find him and find shelter from the rain right away.

His heart pounded against his chest as his breath escaped him. Burning with exhaustion, Rui’s legs nearly gave in but he fought to keep running. He couldn’t stop. He just had to find him.

Rui was lost. He had found himself back where he started: on the empty sidewalk curb. He bit his lower lip, frustrated at the turn of events and furious at himself for getting lost and separated from him. At the moment, Rui felt so scared and alone; he had no idea what to do. “Where is he now? It’s going to rain hard soon…” he muttered, his shoulders drooping.

Shaking his head to snap back to reality, Rui began to run again. He turned sharply at a corner and then suddenly stopped in front of a small yellow fence with a smiling sun painted on it. Rui knew that wall. He remembered passing by it earlier before he got separated. It was rather hard to forget such a wall after all. Feeling desperate at the time, Rui shrugged a bit then climbed over the fence. He threw one leg, then two over the top and landed hardly on the other side in some bushes. Yelping, Rui quickly stumbled away from the foliage. He looked down at his ankles and discovered that they were covered with small yet stinging cuts, which probably came from the sharp thorns and branches of the bush. A small droplet of crimson blood trailed down a cut just above the big ankle bone. Ignoring the pain, though wincing a little, Rui stood himself up erect to survey the surroundings.

He was apparently in the park, particularly the part with the colorful plastic playground for the children. That explained the bright wall.

The park was empty as the weather was bad and it was getting rather late anyway. The empty center of the park had a big fountain in the center which was closed. There were several brightly colored benches surrounding it and rows of streetlamps along the area.

His look at the area suddenly was interrupted however as a shower of rain fel from the heavens. “Rain!” Rui grumbled, running frantically, anywhere in search of shelter. But he stopped in his tracks, feeling pain shot up through him. And then he looked down and saw the cuts on his ankles being stretched as me moved. Grimacing, Rui started limping at a slow pace towards the giant fountain as it was the easiest thing for him to see.

I’m scared…I don’t know what to do…

Gray invaded Rui’s vision, his view being conquered by a vile of rain pour. He whimpered. “Where are you?” The rain pounded down harshly on poor Rui. It drenched him in merciless cold, making his damp clothing stick to his skin. Rui hated it. He hated the pounding rain - the darkness, the cold and the overwhelming loneliness and fright that engulfed his senses.

“Where are you?” Rui cried out, fighting to keep the bitter tears back, “I need you!” It seemed like the pounding rain drowned his voice out.

But he heard a familiar voice ring in his ears, “Rui!”

Turning his head towards the source of the voice, Rui’s eyes bulged, spheres of tears gathering at the sides of his eyes. He found what he had been searching for.

You’re here…I’m not scared anymore…with you, I’m safe…

Suddenly the street lamps were turned on. The pale light illuminated the path and the features of the heaven-sent figure before him.

Rui called out the name entangled in his chest. The name flowed out freely from his throbbing throat. “Saitou!”

And then the raindrops didn’t seem like an irritating pounding anymore.

Now, to Rui, they were clear crystals of gentle chilliness that shattered against his skin. Tears from the rain of his eyes trickled down his cheeks, mixing with the raindrops and falling along with them to the ground.

“Rui!” Saitou called out again. His voice was an enticing symphony to Rui’s ears. It pulled his legs forward, pushing him against the rain towards Saitou, each step sending a breathtaking vibration through every single nerve in his body.

He threw himself into Saitou’s open arms. The iciness of the rain descended upon them but all Rui felt was Saitou’s warmth radiating into him. It was a haven from those cold crystals.

Slightly shaking, Rui buried his face into Saitou’s damp shirt. The older man laced his arms around Rui’s waist, drawing them closer together. Looking up at Saitou, Rui smiled, drinking in the warm and gentle beam Saitou gave him.

“I was so scared and alone without you!” Rui exclaimed, slightly sticking his lower lip out, “but…I’m not anymore…” Tears dropped down the side of his face. Saitou’s thumb tenderly brushed the tears away. “Why is that?” he asked in a rather placid voice.

“You make me feel so safe and happy…I think it’s because, I love you…”

Chuckling lightly, Saitou craned his neck to lean down and plant his lips on Rui’s. Tip-toeing a bit, Rui pressed his own lips against the taller man’s. They both closed their eyes, opening their senses only to each other and the rhythmic sound of the pitter-pattering rain. Gentle warmth washed over them, blossoming and swelling in their chests, rushing powerful sensations to every fiber of their beings. Rui’s heart felt as if it had burst out with bliss, flowing to the tips of his fingers, neutralizing the cold downpour. His body tensed at the overwhelming emotions ripping through him.

And Saitou and Rui stood there, lips locked; sharing each other’s warmth under the crystal rain…
