"My Arrogant Prince Part 1" --
*Shida Mirai’s POV*
“How long are you planning to stare at me?” Yama-chan turned to me with deep looking eyes as if trying to push me away from his sight.
It’s been over 8 months since I transferred here on Horikoshi High School. I never even imagined myself going on this prestigious school. Thanks to Mrs. Yamada’s help, I’ve been able to feel luxurious education in my scholarship.
In one condition though… I need to make this arrogant pig to be at least normal. His innocent looking looks can be deceiving, but his sharp tongue can easily pierce one’s heart for a long mile.
Yes… being with him almost every day can even make me his personal assistant. Even though he treat me that way too, I can’t help myself but to be drawn by him and can make me smile every time he pulls a pout when looking at me.
“Oi… can you at least leave me in peace even just for 5 seconds?” he said then put down the book he was reading and fired me an unkind look.
Yet, I just continued to lean against his desk and pulled out a biggest smile to annoy him.
“Ms. Shida Mirai! You’re being annoying!! These last 8 months had been hell to me…”
What he said enthusiastically pulled me up from his own desk. I’m not even insulted by what he said. But the fact that he called me by my name is just enough to make my ear-drum jump excitedly by his words. This is the 4th time he called me by my name. I know it’s quite sad counting that but it proves my dedication upon my mission to make him at least like my existence.
“Ehhh?? What did you just say?” I said with eyes widened, still waiting for him to continue to call me by my name.
“I said you’re annoying!”
“No… not that! You called me by my name!!!”
By this remark, he immediately turned around as if ignoring all my enthusiasm. I can tell that he’s pretending to be on the other end of the world but somehow, I can feel a warm aura surrounding his body. Much warmer than the one he has a few months ago.
I smiled at myself as I watched the back of his hair being penetrated by the soft breeze coming from our classroom window. I sighed deeply with this scene and placed a small chocolate candy on his desk like I always do.
--
“Look at her… being all close to Yama-chan again” I heard sudden whispers behind my back which had given me chills on my spine.
It’s hard to admit, but I’m kinda used to these kind of unfriendly approaches. I know Yama-chan is all popular to everyone. So deciding to stay close to him is one of my many stupid ideas. However, having no friends in school is something that can be worked on since bothering Yama-chan all the time keeps me well entertained.
“Who does she think she is? She’s even annoying Yamada-kun…” another girl said then gave me the most unwanted look.
I remained silent for a while not really thinking what to answer back. I saw myself just looking directly to Yama-chan’s direction , not wanting to hear those words anymore. I then saw Ryosuke turn around and looked at me. He then diverted his cold looking eyes to the whispering girls which made them shut up in silence.
He always does that. I don’t really ask for his help but as soon as he knows I’m in trouble, he’s always there.
-
*Lunch break*
“Anou…” I heard an unfamiliar voice behind me.
I then quickly turned around to see who it was and found a talk looking boy smiling brightly at me. His clear complexion suddenly pulled a slight curve on my face as the brightness coming from the empty corridor’s window helped to clear his own figure.
“Hai?”
“I’m kinda new to this school and I don’t know anyone yet…” he said bashfully and turned his innocent looking face unto my direction… “I’m Kamiki Ryunosuke… yoroshiku. Sorry to be creepy but you’re the first girl I saw who seems friendly enough…”
Within seconds, I took the hand that he then offered to me as the word “friendly” just gained my attention. It is the first time someone called me “friendly” in this school since everyone practically “hates” me for being with Yama-chan all the time.
“We’re friends now, right? Yatta!!! Don’t go back from your words mister…” I said enthusiastically and shook his hand a few more times before I let it go.
“At last! Someone’s willing to befriend me…” I grinned to myself like I used to do to indicate complete victory.
--
*2 days later*
“This is for you…” I heard Kamiki said then handed me a box full of ichigo daifuku… “I just came to drop these off… I need to go. I have practice… Jia~”
“Uwahh~ for me? Arigatou” I smiled happily with my eyes still locked at the delicious looking food in front of me. I then shook Yama-chan who was sitting beside me… “Look Look!! Kamiki-kun gave me FOOD! How sweet!!!”
By this remark, I saw Yama-chan’s eyes watching Kamiki’s figure disappearing from the dark corridor. As usual, he pulled off and annoyed expression yet, this time, dark and sharp stare were shown after Kamiki left. After this, he stood up and led his way towards the small door of our classroom following Kamiki’s tract.
“Where are you going?”
“Away from you!!!” he replied formally which left me pouting into where I was standing.
--
*The next day*
“What? Yama-chan and that boy who just transferred are having a soccer match?” one of my classmates shouted excitedly after hearing the news from a friend.
“This should be exciting!!!” another one proclaimed.
“Yeah… apparently, Yama-chan was the one who challenged Kamiki-kun…” they continued their conversation and I, on the other hand made my way in eavesdropping… “Come on! The match is starting soon! I just found out this news just now.”
I heard their heavy footsteps unto the concrete hallway floor. The idea of Yama-chan and Kamiki-kun having a match is beyond my comprehension. But the way my classmates reacted just pulled my curiosity towards the soccer field.
-
The minute I got there, the game was already starting. I saw two different colours of uniforms playing side by side each other. One in red and one in blue. I stole a glance at the screaming girls having (obviously) a Yamada Ryosuke banner and uchiwa like attending his own concert.
In seconds, I saw the man himself constantly panting across the field with one hand in the air indicating a goal… “Are you even good at soccer?” I asked silently to myself while staring at his figure.
--
“Shida-san!!!”
In an instance, I saw Kamiki in the middle of the game frantically waving his hand that is enough to gain my whole attention.
Everyone looked at him then I felt all eyes diverted unto my direction. Kamiki, still waving his hands gave off a wide smile as if uninterested on his current activities.
By this, I turned to Yama-chan who is also looking at my direction. I saw him looking at me with an expressionless face which is even more scary that his usual cold attitude.
He then ran across the field completely ignoring Kamiki’s approach even more then attempted to score a goal without even the help of his other team mates. He bravely faced all the members of the opposing team.
However…
“Itai~~” I saw Yama-chan mouthing the words of agony while holding his right arm. One of the member of the opposing team tackled Yama-chan and made his heavy landing on the ground. Everyone saw his painful state which made me run to him in desperation.
-
“Yama-chan!!! Are you okay?”
“Of course not, you idiot!!!” he answered faintly as two muscular looking men carry him towards the nurse’s office.
--
“Are you okay now?” I asked as I slowly pulled the white curtain covering his bed on the nurse’s office to see the man who I was just cheering for just about 2 hours ago.
Like before, he just coldly turned at me and minded his own business.
“You haven’t eaten, right?” I said, still not leaving him alone… “I brought food…”
“I’m not hungry…” he replied.
However, the sound of his stomach contradicted to his statement. I heard it grumble which added to the tint of red colour on his cheeks.
“Not hungry? Liar!!!” I left off a soft giggle and opened the bento box in front of him and offered his chopsticks.
“Do you really think I can use chopsticks with his hand?” he gave off a sarcastic remark and looked at his bandaged hand with a sling travelling through is neck.
By this, I thought for a while and looked at my own hands holding a set of chopsticks.
“Ahh~ Souka! I’ll feed you!” I jumped excitedly on his bed and readily placed the bento box on my left hand and the chopsticks on the right.
“Are you crazy?”
“Say ‘ahhhhh’…” I said playfully, completely ignoring his protest.
“Chotto matte.. you can’t-“
Before receiving any more complaints, I picked up cut hotdog from the bento box and place it inside his mouth… “Be a good boy and do what your mommy tells you…”
“Hai~ ‘ahhhh’” I said continuously every time I feed him. While doing this, I saw his eyes totally diverted from my direction with his crimson red face. I can sense his embarrassment. But this scene just pulled me closer towards my hobby on bullying him...
Before, he’s an arrogant prince… but now, he’s my cute and gentle ‘buta’…
-
“Do you like Kamiki?” he asked suddenly after a few mouthfuls.
“Ehh? Why the sudden question?”
“It’s none of your business” he said then opened his mouth again to take a bite off the food I was feeding him.
“Then, why did you challenge Kamiki-kun for a match?” I asked again.
“I won’t answer that!”
“Fine! Then I won’t answer your original question too…” I replied with pride and saw him pulling his ‘dark’ and ‘scary’ look again.
--
After eating, I forced him to go to sleep and rest. I was about to leave him in peace and attend my last class of the day but the look on his innocent sleeping face just made me stop for a moment and lean closer to his figure. This is the first time I saw his face this close. I then gently rubbed off the hair on his face and stare at his perfected eye-brows and heart shaped lips. I notice his clear girlish complexion contradicting to the manly shape of his face and his dark coloured hair.
I found myself leaning more forward to see a more detailed skin pattern and hear the rhythm of his own heartbeat. I then averted my eyes down his neck and found myself looking at his slightly opened polo shirt that helped in revealing part of his chest.
By this, encounter, I suddenly felt my face burn up and my heartbeat just thumped multiple times as normal. I quickly pulled myself away and pinched my cheeks… “SHIDA MIRAI!!! YOU PERVERT!!!” I said to myself in whisper, while trying my best not to wake him up.
I then forced myself outside the nurse’s office when I suddenly felt my phone vibrated once indicating a text from someone.
“Shida-san… Is Yamada-kun feeling okay now? Hope I’ll get to play with him again soon… Actually, he challenged me to a match because of you… I’m not really sure but I think he likes you."
I read Kamiki-kun’s message with a confused face still regaining my senses from the sight of Yama-chan’s chest… “That ‘buta’ likes me? Impossible!!! I even think he’s gonna hate me when he finds out I’m working with her mum just to be his friend”
After a while, I felt my phone vibrating again. I then pulled my mobile and expecting Kamiki on the other line however, I heard a familiar soft sounding voice on my ear piece which made me straighten up my back.
“Moshi moshi?”
“Ahh… Mirai-chan?”
“Yamada-san?” I said quite softly knowing that Yama-chan’s mum is calling. Until now, Ryosuke doesn’t know what her mum is up to. I don’t even think he’s aware that I know her mum personally… “Ryo-chan is okay now… he’s sleeping on the nurse’s office.” I reassured her as I know the school is initiative enough to let Mrs. Yamada know what happened to her precious son.
“Yokatta~ Thanks for taking care of him ne? Anou… can you come at our house next week? I need to thank you and give your salary for this month. I owe my son’s every smile to you…” She calmly said over the line.
“ehh? To your house? But Ryo-chan might see me…”
“Don’t worry… I’ll make sure he hangs around Nakajima-kun’s house so it will be safe” Mrs. Yamada almost grinned as if having a good plan in mind.
--
For the past 8 months, I haven’t spent a single penny from the money Mrs. Yamada had given me. I admit that I was tempted to use them but I never had the courage to do so. I just thought to myself that having a scholarship from a prestigious school and having a ‘friend’ like Yama-chan is enough for me. Mrs. Yamada had given me enough happiness.
I saw myself standing helplessly outside Yamada residence and pulling a brown envelope containing huge sum of money that Mrs. Yamada rewarded me these past few months as part of my job on keeping his son as friendly as possible. I looked at this piece of envelope with dedication to give all her money back with a feeling of guilt running through all over me. I just know Yama-chan will never forgive me for befriending him just to get money. I need to stop this.
--
“Ahh… Mirai-chan! It’s nice to see you again” Mrs. Yamada remarked and gave me a tight hug. We saw each other just last month but I swear this lady becomes more and more beautiful every time I see her… “Come and sit… I’ll give you some tea and your salary as well”
“Anou… Yamada-san.” I gulped before actually explaining my actual intention on going to their house… “Actually, I’m not here to get my salary…”
A sudden paused filled the atmosphere which made the lovely woman before me stop and pull a confused expression. I sensed that she was waiting for more explanation from me so I took the chance and opened my mouth.
“Actually, I’m here to give back all the money you gave me” I slowly said the pulled the brown envelope from my bag and handed it to her.
“Why? Is this not enough?”
By this, I shook my head and looked down.
“I - I just can’t do it anymore…” I uttered… “My guilt is just killing me… I can’t take money from you just to make friends with your son. I want to quit from this job.” I continued then bowed down my head to try to gain the lady’s forgiveness.
--
“What is this about?”
Suddenly, a deep yet angry tone of voice was heard out of nowhere. The sound of his voice was just enough to recognise his identity and pierce a whole part of my chest.
I then involuntarily turned my gaze from his direction.
“Ryosuke? Why are you here? Aren’t you supposed to be out?
“You’re working for my mum?” he angrily said almost in a shout, totally ignoring his mum’s original question.
By this remark, I felt my whole body stuck to where I’m standing. I want to explain to him everything but my mouth just can’t seem to co-operate with my will. I tried my best to speak but a big lump on my throat just blocked my voice box and tends to be getting more painful every time I see Yama-chan’s teary expression.
“Ryosuke… Let us explain” I heard Mrs. Yamada cry trying to calm down his own son.
However, before even letting another word come out from her mouth, Yama-chan immediately ran away towards the door leaving us both speechless.
I saw his figure disappear through their garden when I felt my chest tightening. Mrs. Yamada then left a pat on my left shoulder and pulled a concerned face.
“Don’t worry too much. I know Ryosuke will calm down soon”
-
“No~ I- I need to apoplogise properly to him. I don’t even care if he hates me now. I need to explain…” I struggled to say, still feeling the big lump on the end of my throat.
Within a flash, I ran towards the path where I saw Yama-chan had gone to.
-
It took me a while to track him but within minutes of running, I saw his figure sitting heavily on the sidewalk pavement.
I then gathered all my courage to approach him while still catching up my own breath.
“Y- Yama-chan…” I said with a broken voice… “I - I’m sorry”
By this, I saw him looked up from where he was sitting with emotionless-looking eyes.
“Do you really think a ‘sorry’ will solve everything? I trusted you…” he said coldly and stood up from where he was sitting.
He then took a step towards my direction. I saw his eyes full of anger; half covered by his hair. I struggle to see his whole facial expression that I can sense the dark aura he’s giving off. He walked towards me and all I can do is to take a step backward every time he steps onward. The next thing I knew is that he was pinning me against the wall and didn’t allow me to move even further.
“I - I didn’t mean to lie to you… I just needed a job so badly that’s why I agreed to your mum’s wishes…” I said frantically without looking up to his face… “You can punish me if you want. Bring out all your anger at me. I know I’m at fault! Swear at me… or even PUNCH me of you must!!!”
“Punch you?” he gave off a cold sarcastic smirk… “Are you sure? Punching you in the face indeed can make me feel better” he continued then raised his right fist.
Without hesitation, I found myself agreeing on his actions. I rather be punched by him than letting him be angry at me for the rest of his life.
“This is a good opportunity to test my right hand if it’s still hurting…” he said then peeled off the remaining bandages from his right wrist that was hurt before.
“Hai~ if that’s what you make you better… punch me as hard as you can” In saying this, I voluntarily closed my eyes after seeing him attempt to force out all his strength on his tightened right hand. By then, I was expecting serious damage on my face.
--
However…
A sudden soft sensation was felt lingering on my lips. I opened my eyes slowly and found Yama-chan’s lips touching the surface of mine. The next thing I remember is that my eyes suddenly widened, still feeling the warm feeling coming from his mouth.
By then time stopped…
--
“Y - You… you k- kissed m-me?” I uttered almost every word broken.
“Now we’re quits…” I saw him smirked and turned away, as if avoiding eye contact.
“W- why?”
“I just want my revenge on you… That’s what you get for being stupidly annoying!!!” he replied confidently then turned to my direction once again.
“B- But… don’t you hate me for what I did?” I asked, still touching the corner of my lips.
“Baka!! I know you’re working for my mum since a month ago… I actually expect her to do those kinds of stuff." he replied then walked closer…
“H-How?” limited questions just lingered through me. I just can’t find myself in the right senses to even construct proper sentences.
“I saw your mobile number in her phone and her number on yours as well… all your texts and conversations are still there. Really Mirai… you and my mum are not good at hiding stuff…” he smirked then continued talking… “I don’t hate you for working for my mum… I hate you for saying you want to ‘quit’ your job. You want to leave me?”
By what he said, I remained speechless. Nothing came out of my mouth but I somehow had the urge to grab a part of his shirt and hug him tightly.
I just remembered myself sobbing like a little child on his embrace.
“No!! I don’t want to!! I thought you hated me…” I cried all the things I’ve carrying heavily on my chest whilst I continue to grab part of his shirt; not willing to let go.
“You’re the densest person I know…” he said softly and left a peck on my forehead… “You’re the only one who managed this rotten attitude of mine. Promise me you’re not gonna quit… I want you to always be by my side and be my personal ‘dog’” he chuckled and swayed me lightly, still locking me to his tight embrace.
