T minus 145 days.

Sheep in the garden again this morning. As usual it was the ewes, but this time it wasn't the grass they were after. Oh no.

It was the two Texel rams in the front paddock. Hello, boys!

Having negotiated the garden, one of the older ewes started pawing at the final fence, before trying to dig under it. One word to describe the expression on her face.

Lust.

I knew it was about the time of year for the fucking'n'fighting, but I hadn't expected the ladies to be the ones that started it.

As it is, both Texels have ugly scabs on their heads, from headbutting the other rams. Apparently they had to be separated, or they'd have knocked heads till death did them part. Racist sheep, whatever next. One of them's gone blind now (hopefully temporarily).

Gave up trying to keep the girls from the boys, anyway Julia turned up and told me what the plan was - the fireworks would be on the 5th November, making the lambs due 145 days later on April 1st. And it looks like there's going to be a *lot* of them, as she and Simon want to get their flock up to around 200.

A few minutes later, I spotted the rams thundering past the barn, with a clear run at the ewes and glee in their eyes. Scratch April 1st, then, it's going to be more like March 22nd. They haven't even had their oats yet, randy buggers. We watched the humping for a while, then Julia decided to put some vitamins and minerals out because it looked like the rams were going to need them. I said I'd sort them for cigarettes and a lighter.

So, babe...your field, or mine?

Oi, you looking at my bird?
