Graduation day.

Oct 23, 2003 18:03

A north wind, cold and strong. Biting when squeezed between earth and sky, the autumn sun providing little offset. Fingers and toes growing numb, and as the trail before me turned into the trail behind, the problem expanded to fill my head.

Just how many colours are there in a rainbow?

If only I could reach it...

I trust all's well with you, you've been kind of low-profile on LJ for a while now!

Ahh, its one of those things that cannot be reached unless you don`t try.

See my email, plus well, I suppose I`m just a little detached of late so am limiting my LJ presence to other peoples mutterings:-)

Detached like a Zen master, in fact :)

Zen master maybe, grasshopper.....DIY Master, not!

Remind me its very hazardous for someone with severe muscular weakness who can barely pick up a weighty cordless power tool, to be drilling and screwing with it....Usual story of "Falling over" in my own unique way on and into the shelves I was making on the floor, smacking my face on the door frame and floor, drawing blood, bashing my ribs and ending up sprawled face down across the shelves ( planks of wood edge on hurt ribs, I can tell you ) for a while, pondering my fate, the texture of the paintwork and carpet one inch from my face and how to get up without further injury.

A Zen moment indeed :-)

Still, the shelves came together in the end and do the job nicely.

Bugger, you need to be more careful...

I imagine the shelves are now sporting miniature landscapes :)

Well, for a moment when my head was wedged between said door frame, shelving and floor, I did think serious injury was about to occur and I might not be able to get up....but what the heck, this is customised shelving, built to my needs and specific measurements, can`t buy anything that would do the job from any stores. ( However, perhaps for adventures like this I really should keep that unfashionable button thing to hand...)

So a few bruises and the risk of drilling through my hand is cheaper than the amount I would have had to fork out to have a joiner/carpenter do them for me. I have no doubt the 5 pieces of shelving I`ve made over the last week, though only small, would have set me back a couple of hundred quid in call out and labour charges alone !

In the meantime they are beginning to sport something but not yet miniature landscapes:-)

Now you got me worried...that probably means there's some man-eating plant occupying the shelf-space....
