Sometimes the little stuff gets to me
I have had reason to say 'liriope' quite a bit in the last few months because I have off and on been trying to deal with mine. I have been corrected quite a bit by people who want to pronounce it Larry-ope, rhymes with dope. I was tempted to say...is it cal-ee-ope? Or cal eye oh pee? But I didn't. Cause I think they would have said "Huh?".
I was pronouncing it Lah-rye-oh-pee, but I was also spelling it lariope.
Well, finally today, I looked it up. Turns out they are both wrong, but I was closer. Its lye-rye-oh-pee. And it is spelled liriope. So there.
Or you can call it lilygrass, which is appealing, because it skirts the whole issue and flows a bit better to the English speaking ear.
