stuff

I'm officially an employee at the Swan now and I've also officially accepted to work at Worcester sixth form college as a receptionist for four weeks starting 29th August. Decided not to tell the Swan yet, as no point really. I think I'll tell them that I can only work days when the new manager comes. Yes, in fact the person who recruited me is leaving on Saturday and I'm sure he won't have told the new manager much, so I'll just tell the new one I can only do evenings and weekends and if they get rid of me I don't really mind because I'll be getting enough from the college.
The work there is going OK - I'm getting to know where stuff is, though had never heard of bianco when someone asked for it today. Am proficient at laying tables, serving food and making side salads though lol.
I heard on Monday that I got through to the assessment centre at Wragges :), so i've booked that for the 22nd and written in the diary at work that I can't do that day either (although will do evening). There is a party at work on Saturday which I'm clearly expected to attend but not sure if I want to. I've been there officially 3 days and they want me to put about £5 in the fund for it and then you buy your own drinks on top. I have to work from 12 noon that day till whenever and the party starts at 11.30pm. I hardly know people really and I'm going to have to get home. I'm also supposed to give money for the guy who's leaving who I also barely know. Maybe I'll stay till about 12.30 or something. They're really bad with having to buy their stuff - you're supposed to buy their food if you have lunch or something there and you have to buy all your drinks - one guy has been working there a week and he's spent £20 out of £50 that he's earnt on drinks and food! Afraid that's not why I got a job there.
Lee came over at the weekend and we went out with my home friends and on the Sunday we watched Grizzly Man (a documentary which Lee and Charli's boyfriend were discussing avidly on the Saturday night, leading me to know a certain amount of its content. However, it was worth watching even if the guy in it was crazy). Won't say anymore in case you watch it. Also enjoyed playing table tennis with Lee and I think he did too even though I won lol.
Still waiting to hear from 13 law firms. I hate waiting. It's annoying checking my email inmbox and seeing no change. Mind you it's better than an inbox full of rejections.
Anyway enough rambling from me.
Well almost, just had to mention "Human Traces" by Sebastian Faulks. I've been waiting to read this book for about a year - since it came out in hardback for £18. Finally I bought a copy in paperback for £4 and read it. Despite being slightly long-winded in places, it's a philisophical thought-provoking and moving book (yep I cried) and I am impressed by how much human life was in it. I didn't fully understand the title until the end but now it gains so much more meaning. I'd definitely recommend reading it if you have some time to spare.
OK no more book review. I will go and do something else, like finish the article I was reading about how men and women's brains may or may not be different. Nature or nurture? Any thoughts on this one?
Ciao x
