Wow.

The fall of the Berlin Wall. The end of the USSR.

And now, the first black president, only 40-odd years after the Civil Rights marches.

It's interesting watching history being made. And while I hate to spoil the afterglow, the hard part is just beginning.

I heard shades of Kennedy in his acceptance last night. "Ask not what your country can do for you..." I do not see easy years ahead, and I think he will be the right person to fix things, and to inspire us to fix the things we can.

Obama said it best himself, that we had changed nothing by electing him, but we now have the opportunity to make change. I hope we all use it wisely, and with much thought, and with consideration of the opinions of the many sides, not just the one.

But I know he made a lot of promises that he may not be able to keep. And I sincerely hope we do not fall to hero worship or unthinking demagoguery. Let us not be as blind as the Repubs have been these last years, insisting that it was treason to question. Obama is a brilliant man, and a brilliant orator, but he is still just a man, who needs to be questioned on his failings and taken to task for his mistakes.

And I, for one, will wait, and see what our new Prez does with the power provided by the Big Chair before I say anything else.
