Ouran High School Host Club
Anime in which scholarship student Haruhi winds up in debt to the rich bastards of the Host Club. In and of itself, not terribly interesting, except for the fact that Haruhi is mistaken for a boy at first. Hijinks naturally ensue once the Club discovers, one by one, that she is, in fact, a girl.
Reason to Watch: Okay, so I like Fruits Basket to some extent, but the 'oh, I'm so happy no matter what bullshit gets thrown my way' attitude that the female main character has really gets on my nerves. So it's refreshing to watch a girly anime where the main character is sarcastic and disdainful and an oblivious idiot. Also gets points for being homoerotic in all possible ways and making fun of otaku.
OTAKU: n. A crazy obsessed anime/manga fan.
Complete in 26 episodes, but really only available in Japan and online. The subtitles are fan subs and are therefore unintentionally hilarious. Watching all 26 episodes in a row may or may not cause one to start randomly spouting Japanese nonsense -- I normally don't have this problem because I stick to dubs whenever possible.
Clearly, I am in extreme denial about the fact that the school year starts in less than forty-eight hours...
