Just a few observations:

One, Sam as Lilith's personal assistant. How convenient that Lilith was looking for a personal assistant, and once you watch the movie, you know that event had to take place AFTER Clay's initial discovery of his heart condition. I thought this could have been just as effective, and more interesting on a number of levels, if Sam had already been Lilith's assistant.

Two, Sam as Clay's walking medicine chest. HUH?? How is that supposed to be beneficial to him on a day to day basis when he doesn't even acknowledge her existence if his mother is anywhere within a borough's distance?? Having her hold the meds is an important plot element later on...but it doesn't work for the earlier part of the movie. I thought this was a very sloppy bit of writing.

Three, can't discuss this in much detail without giving it away, so all I'm going to say is...the WIFE is the NEXT OF KIN...Sam is the wife. Consider that fact when thinking about the ending, and why it shouldn't have worked.

Four, just when did the anesthesiologist figure it all out? And why didn't he do something about it??

Despite the above, I enjoyed the movie. It was a bit slow on the pacing, yet it felt to short at the same time, I have to agree with that. I thought Hayden did a good job, considering he spent half the movie lying on his back, and during those scenes where he is intercut with the surgical procedure walking around with a dumbstruck look on his face.

I'm not overly familiar with Jessica Alba. Looking at her bio on www.imdb.com I can honestly say I don't think I've seen ANY of her movies. That being said, I did enjoy her performance in Awake.

I'll have to remember to discuss this with you more when I'm on AIM next time!

Okay so we discussed stuff on AIM but I'd still like to respond here as well, in case other people see the movie and remember to come back here (am I the only one who does that? Sometimes I go back weeks later to find someone's movie post!)

But... yeah, tired. past my bedtime now!

Frankly, I expected to see him start pressing kisses along the length of her neck, the scene was so intimate!
Yeah, mildly creepy, that. Though if I had a son who looked like Hayden Christensen... *cough* ANYHOO.

The Sam-carrying-his-meds thing... I think that's okay, because they DID see each other on a regular basis. That's the impression I got, anyway. Just not anywhere where it could get back to Mom.

Jessica Alba has been criticized for being "pretty but not talented" - I wonder if it's just the roles she's had thus far. I thought she was excellent in this. I haven't seen Fantastic Four and I don't know what else she's been in.

You found the pacing slow? I didn't at all. Heh.

I demand an ASS SHOT in the deleted scenes on the dvd! We were cheated! Come on, Hayden in a hospital gown but no ass???? Boooooo!

Okay, now I feel a LITTLE better, having responded to your nice long comments with another fairly short one.
