short bio on Kenya Personality: The youngest of the canon middle school third-years, Kenya is a pretty loud kid. To get recognised and acknowledged in the quirky Osakan school of Shitenhouji, one has to make a name for himself, after all. Kenya is a supportive kind of guy and an endless source of energy. He connects well with others, being a compassionate friend. He takes his relationships with people very seriously and will willingly make sacrifices for them. He doesn’t take losses personally, and will only develop grudges under very specific circumstances.
Despite this, Kenya’s fiery personality clashes with those of cooler dispositions and will cause him to easily lose his temper. His friendly(?!) rivalry with his cousin Yuushi stems from their contrasting personalities, with Kenya’s hotbloodedness often delegating him to the losing side. Fiercely competitive, Kenya prides himself on his ability to do anything - running, eating, writing, winning - fast. Unfortunately, this hinders his ability to keep still for any extended period of time.
Kenya is bad at disguising his emotions. He’s not one for trickery or subtlety, preferring to be honest. This seems to impact on his tact, however. Slip-ups and misspeaking can land him in trouble and it can take some convincing to make him realise he’s actually done anything wrong. One it hits him, though, Kenya will be very apologetic.
Basically, he’s a rowdy teenager who’s a lot more caring than he initially seems. It doesn’t take long to get to know him, and once you do, you’ve got a reliable and lasting friend.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Speed! He is almost superhumanly fast, both on his feet and... doing pretty much anything else.
+ Tennis ability. Kenya is recognised as a great player in the series, making him insanely good by anyone else’s standards.
+ His charisma and natural friendliness are some of his best traits. He knows how to get along with people... mostly.
+ While not a genius, Kenya certainly isn’t stupid, either. He is fairly academically sound. He can also play the drums!
+ He is good at looking after animals, and takes thorough daily care of his pet iguana.
- He can sometimes be a bit blockheaded about people’s emotions.
- Kenya’s speed comes with the tradeoff of him being extremely fidgety and easily distracted off-court. He’s completely un-zen, impatient and can sometimes be disruptive.
- He gets into arguments easily and will not back down once they start.
- His hair is bleached. Shh, don’t tell.
- He has horrible balance, both physically and in his daily life. He’ll often spend too much time focusing on one thing, getting distracted, and then not having enough time to do anything else.

First Person Sample: Is this thing on? How do I get the camera to work- no, I have it, you don’t need to-!
[ The video feed clicks on. ]
Oh. Uh, thanks. [ A Treecko crawls into view and up onto the shoulder of a tall blond boy. She looks proud of herself. ] Okay, this is pretty weird, but I get that this thing is meant to put me in contact with people, right? I just woke up and found this thing on me, with a bunch of other stuff. That’s really not normal.
[ The Treecko crawls on top of Kenya’s head, taking a look around. He seems to realise what she’s doing and swings the camera to give a view of New Bark Town. ]
Yeah, this is where I am. It’s pretty small, and kinda familiar for some reason. I mean, like I’ve seen it before, but a long time ago? I don’t really get it, but hey. If anyone’s out there, I could use a rundown on what exactly is happening. And yeah, [ points to the Treecko ] what this thing’s all about.
(Treecko!)
[ She reaches down and smacks him on the forehead. ]
Oi, hey! What the hell was that for? Don’t get all offended at me, this is confusing, alright?! Listen up, you--
[ The feed shuts off. ]
Third Person Sample: Kenya stood, arms crossed, at the entrance to Route 29.
“I dunno. Shouldn’t we stay here for a little longer? It’s kind of getting dark out and I don’t know about you, but I can’t see too well at night.”
The little green lizard he’d released from the ball gave a firm shake of her head. Kenya didn’t know that she was a her, that she was a Treecko, or anything about her yet. He considered her for a minute, wondering how it understood him when it couldn’t speak itself. This whole situation just screamed strangeness. Waking up in a house that wasn’t his, with belongings that didn’t belong to him... weird.
He quickly turned his attention back to the darkening path of the route. “Look, I’d like- love to keep moving, I really would! But I’m not such a huge fan of camping out in a weird place with no- hey!”
The Treecko had rushed off onto the route, scampering swiftly up a tree trunk. Without another thought, Kenya snatched up is backpack and bolted in after her. Catching up quickly but overshooting his mark when she finally stopped on a branch about ten trees in, Kenya stared, expression thunderous, up at her. “Treecko,” is all she said in response to his glaring.
“Don’t do that, what if you got l- oh hey,” he said, stopping short as he looked around. “Not as bad as I thought in here.”
Giving Kenya an exasperated look, the Treecko scurried along a few more trees, beckoning for him to follow. Kenya just blinked after her. It almost looked like... a challenge.
“Like hell I’m gonna lose to you! If it’s a race you want, you’ve got one!” A shrug in response. “And if that’s it, then get down here, using the trees is chea- don’t run off while I’m talking to you! Get back here!!”
