Soldiered fingers-
steel pot fingernails,
most quick-bitten,
                      /manicured,
Grip cold brown Garands.
                               /reflective silver rails.

Black boots scurry,
                       /wing tips clack,
Huddling altogether,
                        /close apart,
While green-brown backpacked shoulders zigzag,
                                                               /black-gray suits sway,
diving and laying in trenches,
                                     /sitting and hunching in corners,
Stopping to unload.

Sand-strewn human estuaries
rumble by with calf-crazed eyes.
                                         /half-lazed eyes.
