Hawthorn and Vine's Reverse Challenge 2014
As of today, there's less than a week left to sign-up for the H&V Reverse Challenge 2014... and the promotional artwork by hey_am is here and ready to go!

What's a Reverse Challenge?
Whereas some fests have an author writing a story which is then given to an artist to create art based on that story, a 'Reverse Challenge' inverts it so that artists create images first, and authors then write works inspired by the images. The first phase is the initial creation period for the artists, at the end of which their work will be submitted. Once we have all submissions, we'll match the art to the authors that have signed up to participate. Because there are in general more writers than artists in our fandom, each piece will likely have more than one fic inspired by it. The art and the fic will be presented together once posting begins.
What kind of art will be accepted?
Traditional, digital, and/or manipulation, featuring Draco and Hermione... are all acceptable, as long as the work is newly created for this fest and never been posted. If you need any further explanation or inspiration, you can check out what was created for Reverse Challenge 2010. Sorry, no icons or videos will be accepted.
What if I would like to submit both art and fic?
You're more than welcome to! There will be an option on the sign-up to choose to submit both.
What if I would like to submit more than one piece of artwork?
Hey, go you! As we'll likely have less artists than authors, we'll be thrilled to accept any new work you'd like to submit.
TIMELINE: SEPTEMBER 2013 - FEBRUARY 2014
September 7th - 21st: Artist and Author sign-ups
September 21st - November 9th: Artist Creation period
11:59pm, November 9th: Art Due
November 9th - 23rd: Assignments sent to Authors
November 23rd - January 18th: Author Creation Period
11:59pm, January 18th: Stories Due
February 1st: Posting begins
Rules & Guidelines
1. You must be a member of Hawthorn & Vine to participate.
2. The minimum word count for fiction is 1000 words. There is no maximum, so have at it!
3. Each submission - art or fic - will be posted to H&V by yourself, under the category 'Reverse Challenge 2014' so that it will go into a special queue set up only for this fest. Failure to use the correct category will put it into the main queue and might result in it being posted ahead of schedule and not as part of this fest. You will be responsible for correctly choosing warnings, themes, and ratings for your submissions.
3. Because of the nature of this fest, the deadlines will be firm, and no extensions will be granted. Artists will need to have their pieces in on time so that they can be matched and sent out to the writers during the time allotted. However, for writers, things will be a bit different: as with fests hosted on Archive of Our Own, you will be submitting to your H&V account yourself, so you will have access to your piece after submission. There is a two-week window for validation before posting begins, so you can edit, expand, or otherwise alter your piece up until the day prior to posting. As long as there is at least a 1000-word submission in the queue by the due-date and you've made any edits by January 31st, you will be a part of this fest.
4. All stories above 5,000 words must have a beta, unless you are given permission from the mods to go without one. As all stories will appear on Hawthorn & Vine, they must meet the standards of the archive before being posted. If your story will be over 5,000 words and you do not wish to have a beta, you may submit a sample of your work for consideration. If the mods still ask that you obtain a beta and you do not wish to do so, your story will be posted to hawthorn_vine, and not to the archive. While the mods will make a handful of corrections, any stories with numerous errors will be returned to the participant for corrections.
5. All submissions must follow the Submission Rules of Hawthorn & Vine, including the Banned List and Yew List as well as our ratings definitions.
6. Please note that it is not required that you submit. If, for whatever reason, you fail to complete your artwork by November 9th or your fic by January 18th, there will be neither penalty nor restriction against you because of it in future challenges. To be sure that each artwork gets at least one submission written for it, however, we will be accepting sign-ups for pinch-hitters, and will be showering those who step up to the plate to help with love, esteem, and virtual chocolate.
