Long overdue for an update

I know, I've been slacking lately but it's been a busy month.

I'm moved into the new apartment and it's wonderful. I can walk to pretty much every place I need to go. I have to drive a mile and a half (I know, I could walk but it's a very hazardous walk) to do big-time grocery shopping at Ralph's and Target is just under 5 miles away. There is a small grocery store (Bristol Farms, it's kinda expensive) about 4 blocks to the north that's great for weekly trips and it carries a lot of natural and organic stuff. Borders and Sav-On drugs are a little farther north from Bristol Farms. PetCo, Starbucks (not that I'm much of a coffee drinker), Quiznos and the dry cleaners are all literally around the corner from teh apartment. I have a 7Eleven about 50 yards away on my street and Staples is across the street. Hollywood Video, Baskin Robbins and various other places are 4 blocks to the south and there are an unbelievable amount of middle eastern and Persian restaurants all around. Good deal. The best part of all though, is that it is exactly 1.2 miles from my garage to the parking lot at work. Can't beat that with a stick. Since I'm so close, I come home for lunch and make myself a nice, healthy sandwich or salad. I have eaten out exactly 5 times during the entire month of May. Incredible isn't it? The norm for most people around here is to eat out for lunch everyday and again for dinner about half of the time. I saved about $243.00 by eating at home.

So I bought a fish tank.

I've always wanted one and I'm very pleased with how it came out. I got a really good deal on everything too. The tank (10 gal), filter, heater, thermometers, water treatment, hood and light all came in a starter kit that was on sale for $39.99. They didn't have the stand I wanted in a box, but the manager offered the floor stand for a discount. I didn't mind and I didn't have to put it together. When I got to the check-out counter, the manager rang it up and saw that it was on sale for $29.99, but he gave me the discount anyway, so I paid $19.99 for the stand. I added the gravel, plants and the skeleton-drinking-rum bubbler. This morning I picked up an algae scrubber, tank-cleaning siphon and a water testing kit (to check the ammonia and pH levels), and some ammonia and pH treatment stuff. I got some really pretty guppies (on sale for 5 for $5), and dumped them in once the water temperature was warm enough. It's so cool and pretty.

Oops, how'd this get in here? j/k
I thought I'd share one of me cuddling with my doggie. It was taken with my phone camera. Her eyes look funny from the flash.
