The latest cold front pushed a new wave of hummingbirds in. One of my feeder visitors today is a bit larger than the others, and looks dark on the back, not bright-green. Roufus I hope I pray please oh Murphy may I have a rufous?
This could all be merely an artifact of poor lighting under the porch overhang, color reflected off the feeder, and a naturally larger-than-average rubythroat that's got a bigger-than-average layer of fat deposits porking up for migration. That's what possible-rufous have been in the past at this time of year.
But I'll still hope.
