(I'd written this Monday but forgot to save ...)
"...MAJOR WINTER STORM EXPECTED THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING..."
(subtext - "Maybe you will LISTEN to us this time?!?!?!?" Well, the NWS Monday briefing did have 250+ attendees asking tons of questions, so Official Folks should be prepared)
There are three 'waves' of activity involved over the next three days. Each involves a large number of moving parts, some of which combine to make things more miserable for people underneath (or not).
(from NWS AFD, for Monday night - last night)
FOR THE NORTH
ATLANTA METRO WHICH IS IN THE ADVISORY...COULD SEE A MIX OF SLEET
AND SNOW WITH ACCUMULATIONS MAINLY ON GRASSY SURFACES AND STREETS
REMAINING JUST WET. WILL BE SUCH A CLOSE CALL THOUGH TEMPERATURE
WISE THAT WE WILL MONITOR CLOSELY FOR POSSIBLE EXPANSION OF
WARNING TONIGHT. 1 OR 2 DEGREES WILL MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE TONIGHT.
A related note of sorts here: 1-2 degrees F is pretty much rounding static in a forecast. When you're converting from the C of forecasting and modeling to the F of broadcasting and dissemination, 1 degree difference IS often due to rounding.
It's important in the current forecast because THIS 1-2 degree range includes the flipping point between "just plain wet" and "aaaiiieeee".
Looks like another "WFH Tues-Weds-Thurs" week for spouse & myself.
