This last week has included two out-of-state trips, a relative felled by a stroke, five job interviews, two (unsuccessful) attempts at locating the hawk referred to in previous posts, and not a single night with more than 4 hours of sleep (big-time insomnia!).
Yes, Mom's doing worlds better.
Yes, I got the contract job. So that's (hopefully) steady income for 12-24 months, enough time to work on bolstering the resume for when it's time to go looking again. It's not computer security related except peripherally. Instead, it's a crossover between business analysis, design, development, support, QA, implementation, project management, forecasting, user requirements, topped off with "an ungodly amount" of data crunching and ad hoc research. In other words, it will require a LOT of skills that I've got honed to very high levels. It'll also require about a dozen software packages that I've by and large never touched before, so I've got a steep learning curve ahead. (Yay! Learning stuff = Good!)
Had a grand time at the housefilk hosted today by
ladyat and
bedlamhouse. Much fun, much music, much good conversation. Thank you to both of those folks, you're going to be missed when you finally leave Atlanta for real.
Both of the cakes were basic boxed mixes made per the regular instructions, except that I also added a box of instant pudding powder and one extra egg. The orange cake had vanilla pudding and the devil's food cake had devil's food flavored instant pudding. Ooops - I forgot, the orange cake also had 1/2 teaspoon of orange extract added to the mix prior to baking.
The orange cake was torted and filled with regular orange marmalade, then left unfrosted because frosting would have overwhelmed the orange flavors with even more SWEETSUGARSWEETSWEET than it already had.
Not sure I could duplicate the zombie guitar cake frosting. It's a failed experimental recipe involving Ghiardhelli cocoa powder and homemade buttercream frosting. It tasted great, flavor-wise. Texture-wise it was completely unsuitable for frosting or decorating. Color-wise, I hope I can duplicate that death-grey sometime in the future if I ever need to frost another zombie guitar.
*zonk* I go try to sleep now.
