Room 330 - Saturday

Nope.

That was Kate's first thought when she'd woken up enough to realise her lack of hair didn't mean it'd been cut. It meant she was a guy. Considering which would be more horrifying took up several minutes that otherwise would have been spent panicking.  The answer, of course, was being a guyBut okay, so she was in a new body. Teddy did it all ( Read more... )

It was a good thing that Alec had overheard quite a bit of shrieking this morning and concluded that it was probably a good time for a visit to the little sib, wasn't it?

A visit with a bag of clothes for her, even. He was such a good older brother. Kate liked black, right?

He knocked on the door, kind of hoping that he was right in predicting what kind of weekend it was so that his help would be appreciated. "Kate? It's Alec."

Well, she preferred purple, but black was acceptable.

Kate considered the door for a moment. She was good with chemistry and writing about Frantz Fanon. But - with a sigh, Kate pushed her laptop aside and went to open the door.

"This is terrible," she informed Alec. "Why an I a guy."

Hello to you too, Kate.

Alec handed the bag off to her without comment. "It happens sometimes," he explained. "I spent a weekend in September looking like my sister. Three of the worst showers of my life." Yes, three showers in two days. "It's not fun, but it'll be over soon."

She took the bag but was distracted by what he'd said. "...and I've never been more happy I don't have a brother. That is horrifyingly bad. I'm up for kicking the crap out of what's causing this."

Because clearly this was a rather petty supervillain. Clearly.

"It's apparently just... Fandom." Alec didn't look like he was wholly thrilled with that explanation, but he gave a sheepish shrug. "It took me a while to adjust to that. You can't really beat up the island itself."

Well, they could, but they'd look pretty silly tearing up roots and kicking the ground.

"Watch me," she frowned. She could find its soft spots and shoot arrows into them! Ha!

Remembering she was holding a bag, Kate glanced down at it. "What's this?"

"Oh. Clothes." Helpful! "I thought you might need them if you want to leave your room this weekend. You can keep them; I'm told these weekends happen somewhat often."

Oh. That was pretty sweet of him. Kate smiled at him, reaching touch his arm in gratitude. "Thank you. That was incredibly nice of you."

She eyed the bag again then couldn't help joking, "Unless you gave me one of your sweaters."

"My sweaters are fine." No. They weren't. "But no, it's mostly t-shirts. I thought you might want to go shooting or something. Which, for the record, will probably be much easier for you as a guy than it was for me when I was a girl for a weekend."

Because learning to accomodate boobs was difficult.

"That wasn't... I mean, I wasn't being sexist," he added hastily. "Just - there's less of an... obstacle."

Stop talking, Alec.

Kate raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms over her chest (which, admittedly, felt weird).

"Uh huh. No, really, tell me more."

"I mean, if you have to learn to adjust your stance, it's difficult when there's an, um, obstruction," Alec clarified, then paused and swallowed. "Can we kill this topic?"

"Absolutely," she said, looking amused. "But for the record, I totally agree that boobs suck to shoot with sometimes."

Kate paused then held up a finger. "Hang on, I look ridiculous." She shut the door then quickly grabbed a pair of pants out of the bag. Sliding into them, she breathed a sigh of relief. Pants were much, much better than pajamas in just about any situation that involved other people.

Much better clothed now in her hoodie & actual pants, Kate reopened the door and looked just slightly more relaxed about this. "You can come in if you don't want to stand in the hall."

Kate was a saint and Alec owed her forever. Possibly to be repaid in more pants.

Alec came in, smiling a little. "Much better," he said. "So... how have you been apart from the, um, random transformation?"

"You mean other than hating everything on this island with the exception of you for the clothes-bringing?" Kate grumped though there was much less behind it than there'd have been 20 minutes ago.

"It's not bad. Clint let us shoot for class yesterday. Which was awesome."

"You don't hate everyone," Alec chided her, because it was pretty much in his nature to act like he he was her mother or something. "...I keep forgetting he's a teacher. None of my teachers let us do that."

That was a little bit of a whine, yeah.

Kate frowned strongly at him. "Don't I?" Not that he wasn't right, shh, logic didn't play into this.

"What, you don't think Mr. Priest will let us shoot supernatural bad things?" Bad things. Yup, that was why Kate was in that class. She made a face. "Yeah, I guess not."
