While Patrick was in London, I was here in Utah, working and (trying) to date other people. We said we would take a break while he was on study abroad, but we just skyped every day he was away anyway haha.
We each had very unique experiences while apart that we did not tell each other about for several months until the time was right. While in London, Patrick went to see a not-so-good Neil Labute play about some sort of terribly dysfunctional family, and after two hours of watching this family abuse and torture each other, Patrick walked out of that theater saying to himself, "I should marry Anna Hawkins." He didn't tell me about this for some months ;)
While he was away, I was a bridesmaid in Amber Gardner's wedding (to Grant! Remember him? I set that up, that's right!). Amber and I went to the temple a lot during the run up to her wedding, and one day I was getting ready to go with her and feeling very tired and confused about what was going to happen with me and Patrick (that does seem to be a recurring theme in this journal), and I finally decided to say an honest prayer to the Lord about my relationship with this guy. It is AMAZING what happens when I say real, honest prayers! I should do it more!
I remember saying to Heavenly Father, "I just want to have fun with him!" *whinywhiny* and BAM! Suddenly it was like I was hearing my own voice right in my ear: "Anna, you and Patrick are past the point of 'having fun.' If you want to be with him, then you need to be serious about it. You need to take care of him and let him know that you are there for him, because he is MINE."
I kid you not, it was so clear that I wrote it down, word for word. Now it's not like God told me, you have to marry this man! But He did make it clear to me that if I wanted to be with Patrick, I needed to do it properly. Wow. Does God love his children or what??
And so when Patrick returned from England, it was on. And we fell in love.
