Just to let everyone know that Taylor and I are alright. The earthquake woke me up this morning, but I remembered that we live at the top of a huge hill and didn’t have to worry about a tsunami. So I went back to sleep while Taylor went to make me breakfast in bed. A little bit late an aftershock took out the power on the entire island of Oahu and my breakfast in bed consisted of turkey bacon and orange juice because we lost power while the potatoes and eggs were cooking. The power finally came back a couple hours ago and the cable modem within the last 30 minutes. If things didn’t get better by morning Taylor and I were drawing up plans for fashioning a raft out of coconuts and tourists suitcases and make sail for Seattle. Taylor and I realize that we require electricity for happiness and were just happy that the power came back before the sun went down.
I feel bad when people travel to Hawaii for dream vacations only to realize that we have problems just like everyone else. All of Waikiki lost power today and if that wasn’t bad enough it has been raining non-stop for about two days. Nothing makes tourists more cranky then when the weather doesn’t cooperate with their travel itinerary, except for when the power goes out at your hotel and you have no food, water or entertainment. This disaster ranks right up there with the time the mayor dumped 20 million gallons of raw sewage in to beaches off Waikiki. Or how the island of Oahu has one of the biggest rates of meth addiction in the US. It’s funny how news like that doesn’t make it off the island much since tourism is such a huge deal here.
