I need a tv-watching icon.

Have seen the first two LoK episodes, am waiting a bit to watch the third (due to being busy) and am wondering if they're going bad places. I mean, obviously they are, but if they're going the bad places I'm thinking of or if it's something else entirely. It'd be too easy to parallel the last series. So that's all I'll say until I've caught up.

Sleepy Hollow continues to surprise me, what with ghostly Clancy Brown and undead John Cho, and reality-covering-up Orlando Jones. Though I'm not sure why Abbie didn't go to her sister and say, "Hey, guess what? We were right. Also, you're either not crazy, or not crazy about that, at least. So, um, what are we going to do about it?"

But given that they're bringing in Abbie's sister (Jennifer, right?) in episode two, I'm kind of okay with that. Abbie is flawed, and has spent years being afraid, so there you go. Explained it away.

Plus. Oh. Seriously? There are two covens of witches, one evil and one good, and they've been duking it out for centuries? It's like a fanfic dream come true.

Anyway. The whole thing is ridiculously silly, but in exactly the kind of way that I enjoy, so I'm all over that.

What I'm annoyed at is the meme going around that people are only watching Sleepy Hollow for social justice points. I happen to be watching Sleepy Hollow because I like cheesy damn horror with witches and undead and ghosts and any relationship to Colonial America adds a historical aspect that I enjoy. (Vampires and werewolves could only make this show better, producers. I'm just saying.) Because I like stories of Colonial America.

The fact that Katrina Van Tassel/Katrina Crane is in it as a major character doesn't hurt either, because a) witches and b) two women who are regular characters (and I am, yes, quite pleased that a woman of color is one of those leads, which does not make me or anyone else who is pleased someone looking for social justice brownie points), not to mention c) I still have my utterly terrible high school era Mary Sue fic for the 1991 Dark Shadows revival. In hard copy. Prior to actively participating in online fandom. Oh, Dark Shadows. So terrible, and yet, so delightful. (Tangentially, Lysette Anthony had a brief cameo in Strippers Vs. Werewolves, which also co-starred Sarah Douglas, who was Garshaw in SG-1.)

As to Agents of SHIELD, I have to watch it at least once more before I post anything in depth, because I love the cast, I wish we got Maria Hill in all the episodes, and I had no idea Ron Glass was going to be in it too. Maybe he'll have more to do than he did in Firefly? Either way, I find it rough around the edges, because it's a pilot, but it did adequately introduce everyone, set forth the general plot of the show, and pull together the interpersonal dynamics enough for me to see where it's probably going. All I can hope is that Joss Whedon avoids shipping, because I'm kind of over the whole "happy pairing, adorable pairing, everyone loves this pairing, SOMEONE DIES TERRIBLY BECAUSE NO ONE CAN EVER BE HAPPY" thing that he has a habit of doing.
