Ugh. Stop lobbying to kill characters, Supernatural fandom.

Jul 01, 2010 09:24

In an expansion of the grand tradition of the LJ comms devoted to killing off Sam Carter and Elizabeth Weir, there is now a Tumblr account where fans of Supernatural may go to lobby for the PTB to kill off Lisa Braeden. Who apparently may or may not have a relationship with Dean.

Instead of linking you to the Tumblr page (which is, frankly, disgusting), here is a post on the matter by
cofax7. The comments contain some very good analyses of how the show and fandom are full of misogynistic fail. (It's full of racefail too, and probably other kinds of fail, I know, but that's not the focus of this particular post. I do want to acknowledge that racism exists, though.)

Ugh. How many ways are there to say that this is not acceptable, and if you actually support this, you are actively supporting the continuation of misogyny in this show? (So many ways, not all of which even involve profanity.)

If it didn't involve actually watching the show, I'd rewrite the series so that Ellen and Jo are in Dean and Sam's roles, searching, at the start, for their husband and father, respectively. Jo could grieve a torched boyfriend. That would be far more interesting to me.

8/16/10 - Please don't come into this post and start making a misogynistic defense of this show. From now on, I'm going to just freeze misogynistic comments without replying to them. Or just screen all new comments and ban people who make misogynist comments. That seems better to me.
