[recs] The SGA Version

I will not wibble about First Strike sight-unseen. I will not wibble about First Strike sight-unseen. I will not... Oh, who am I kidding? I totally will. *wibbles*

Two-Stepping by bluflamingo [PG-13]
This is a post-Duet story, pairing up Katie Brown and Laura Cadman. Katie's given more depth than she ever was in Duet, and writing this fic from Laura's POV allows the author to show her insecurities, as well as her strengths. The story does a great fade to black, and leaves the reader with an assumption that this will be an ongoing relationship. Also? So far as I can tell, bluflamingo is a new SGA author, so please go and encourage her to keep with the fandom. I've found three fics by her: this femslash fic, and a gen fic focusing John, and a Cameron/John sequel to the gen fic, and all of them are very, very well-done.

Mission Objectives by teaphile [Adult]
Sometimes, when reading fic, the characters becoming aware of their arousal and realizing that someone else feels the same way? Well, that's all the payoff you need. Rodney McKay/Laura Cadman

The Very Secret Diary of Laura Cadman by miriel [PG-13]
Laura Cadman blows shit up. She bonds with her CO over the fun of blowing shit up. There is nothing bad about this. Primarily a gen fic, with hints of Shep/McKay. (If you're drinking something? Set it off to the side while reading this fic.)

the loves you had left by medie [NC-17]
This is a Return I based fic. Elizabeth can't let go of John, or Atlantis. They're inextricably tangled in her self-identity, and that's a terrifying concept for a woman who's used to standing apart from the world. I love this fic, where Atlantis is almost (but not quite) a person, and almost (but not quite) a lover, and neither John nor Elizabeth are able to find a way to be complete without the city. Except that they do.

Five Secrets That Were Kept By the Leaders of the Atlantis Expedition by daygloparker [PG-13]
This is a five things fic that begins with four disparate pieces of fic, and then with the last one, it seamlessly weaves each of them together into one reality. It's just an absolutely wonderful piece, smoothly written, and well-characterized. Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard.

A Taste for Scandal by azarsuerte [PG]
Elizabeth Weir, a local widow, meets John Sheppard, a rich gentleman who doesn't live by the standards of their society any more than he wants to. Think of this as SGA meets Pride & Prejudice. It's a really well-done blending of both worlds. Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard.

Rodney McKay is a Very Bad Manager by synchedochic [PG]
Is there anyone who hasn't read her fic? Because I highly recommend anything she's written, whether you're a Shep/McKay fan or not (I'm not, as a matter of fact). This particular ficlet is a gen one, and involves Rodney's performance review of Radek. You really, really must click on the attached file of the actual performance review and read that, not just the fic. (And my only quibble? Rodney would not use Pine. Rodney would read his mail in Elm. But that's minor, and I'm being silly. I freely admit that.)

Bell Curve, or Ladies Night at the Boom Boom Room by Pru
This is a Sheppard/McKay AU fanfic, and it's absolutely hilarious. It's wonderfully hilarious, it's essentially a romance novel, and everything is squishy and happy at the end. Rodney is a professor at MIT, and John Sheppard is his TA. The rivalry between Rodney and Shep's thesis advisor is too absolutely perfect. (My only regret is a lack of Elizabeth. But at least we get Jeanie!)
