Captain. Fucking. America.

The spoiler free part:

Captain America was fantastic. There were a few trip-ups in the pacing (mostly from shoeing in the HOMG 3D YAY moments, which came off as hokey, and too comic book-y) but I think the characters are very solidly developed. There's one thing that will come off as a jerky surprise to people who aren't well versed in Cap, but if we are very, very lucky, it will lead to a sequel. Which I will be quite gleeful about if it ever happens. The ending is actually a bit moving, which I never expect from a comic book movie, and if this is a new trend (hat tip to XFC) I'm actually quite excited to see any movies that'll follow in it's footsteps.

Vibe wise, there's heavy nods to Indiana Jones and, surprisingly enough, Star Wars. It worked really well for me, but anyone that knows me well enough knows that this goes back to my geeky core. I thought the score worked very well as well and never got in the way.

I've heard that Evans is signed to 6 movies including this one and Avengers. Presuming they could land the same cast and solid writers, I'd really love to see the sequel(s) set in WW2 as well.

Don't look at me like that. I did not get enough of the Howling Commandos.

Also? Stay after the credits. Avengers teaser trailer. 'Nuff said. ;)

The spoilery parts:

I'm so scatter-brained... trying to find my thoughts.

- Cosmic. Cube. Yeeeeeeeeeees. I'm a little worried about what happened when Red Skull actually touching it, but OH HAI THERE BIFROST!!!

- I realized about halfway through the movie that Red Skull's comment about "the jewel of Odin's" whatever means that when Loki sets eyes on the Cube in the post-credits of Thor... He's already seen it before...

- Bucky. I love the casting here, ok? And the way he makes eyes at Steve after Steve is big. I didn't mean to slash him, ok? And, uh, honestly it's one sided in my head... :shifty eyes: Shut up. All of you, shut up. I'm looking at you Sarah! BUT ANYWAY, I need a Winter Soldier movie like burning. The way Bucky just falls... yeah. They've left the door open (or nodded at it, anyway) given his super awesome sniper skills.

- The Howling Commandos. They go unnamed, which is pretty neat, and I'm wondering what they plan on doing here. Technically Fury led them... and there's someone who could be a young Fury. Which would straight up nod to the Infinity Serum... Anyway. Dugan was close to being a scene stealer.

- The fucking movie made me cry, with the way Steve goes down in the ice on the wire with Peggy. Just. Oh man. And who I'm thinking was probably Sharon right when he wakes up, and his "I had a date"... Yeah. Like I said, the movie was actually touching!

- Heh. Senator Rand. I see what you did there, writers. I want that movie too.

- Howard Stark. Like father, like son. Although there's less chemistry between him and Cap in the movie than you get in the previews. :snickers: He's another near scene stealer, and one of the other reasons I'd really like to see the Cap sequels set in the past. There's so much more to be mined there, and given his "keep looking" I think there's a lot of off screen friendship that could have been built in.

- The romance is awkward, but it's meant to be awkward. It works. What's gonna get really awkward is when he's supposed to flirt with his old flame's younger... uh. Sister. (Maybe they'll change that. Good luck, Sharon...)

- Tommy Lee Jones. Red button. Our whole row giggled.

- That has to be the most amusing use of his original costume. Hats off for working in the nod and not being ridiculous.

- At the Stark Expo ... Was that the original Human Torch's costume? Er... the android one? Cos that's adorable if it is. :)

- I'm still tickled pink that the blond that kisses Cap is the same chick that plays Anne Boleyn in The Tudors.

- Buckyyyyyyyyy. I like how they used him as a motivator for Cap... but I wish that had also translated into more screen time.

- Mr. Asshole (whom they make a point of showing you his face -esp mocking Cap- a few times) just sort of disappears. I'm not sure if this is because he's the one who recognizes the shield in the present, or what. But it struck me a little discordantly.

- I want to know why it is Red Skull has such faith in the gods, and their science-magic. I also want to know if the plans that Zola shoves in his bag are important, or if it just stood out to me in an odd moment of red herring-ness.

- The end of the motorcycle sequence? So, so very the speeder bikes from Star Wars. Just. Yes. I'm ok with that though. I think the, uh, Storm Trooper rule was in full affect as well. (It's only ironic when Cap is fighting Nazis right?)

- Where the fuck was Coulson? Like, dude. Dude. Come on! (What? I'd watch a Coulson movie too.)

So. Has anyone been really super psychotic yet and built a list of crossover pre-Avengers moments? I'm not talking about "Oh look, everyone uses Stark tech!" I mean like "based on the footage Fury was watching in this part of Iron Man 2, that clearly dates the movie to this part of Incredible Hulk" or whatever.

I hope so... if you've seen it (specifics!) please link me. ♥
