So far as writing exercises go, if it's not done in a group, I kind of fail at them. The pressure of Write or Die is just as likely to make me stall as light a fire under my ass. Some days it's all I can do to make myself write something every day.
Well,
sylk just pointed me toward a nifty new site that's actually pretty awesome.
Check out
750words.com.
It's like an electronic version of morning pages. You're not sharing the writing itself, it's not really a social site. But it's easily accessible everywhere, it auto-saves your work, and it's got a built in word counter. There's also a points system and monthly challenges to help get you moving if you want.
There's also a really nifty statistics page.
This is mine for today. Ok, so it's the shared version of mine for today. You can determine which stats you want to share, or if you even share them at all. Things that I kept off of mine were things like my WPM and most used words, simply because I feel like that as I use it more, and potentially use it to privately work through stuff in my head, or work through plot ideas, these could be too revealing.
I'm not clear how long they save your text for - if it's just for the day, or if it's just for the month, or what. If they do save it for the month, or for longer, then my only complaint is this: there's no tagging. Obviously the tagging system would be for personal reference only, but if I used this to bounce out ideas and didn't already understand I needed to save things on my own? I'd want a way to reference specific sets, y'know? But I won't blame them if they dump things daily. I'm sure it's a lot of writing they have to put up with. :)
ETA: Sylk (accidentally anonymously) commented with some tips to help out with what I just said, hehe.
Anyway. Poke at it, have fun, be amused, or productive. :wanders off again:
