Ahead of the blueberry pancakes

Actually, I haven't had my second cup of coffee, yet, which reminds me: I truly hate Equal 'cupful' as a sweetener.  [gag]  But weighing less than 170 pounds (the 30 pounds lost mark) continues to get closer.  [sigh]  I'll put a Splenda packet in the next cup ( Read more... )

There has been a lot in the news lately on wind power. While in the doctor's office, I read a financial magazine's article on T. Boone Pickens - oil tycoon. He's starting a wind farm in Texas. Problems: 1. if there's no wind, there's no energy; 2. what energy that is generated cannot be stored; 3. no one wants the windmills on their property; 4. the cost is prohibitave and it would take 10 or more years to begin to profit from just 1 windmill; 5. you still need electricity to run them; 6 they're noisy; and 7. environmentalists (PETA, etc)are making them even more expensive with the multimillion dollar law suits they're filing because of the potential to harm wildlife (birds).

A man on a radio show had called in to say that he had looked into putting a windmill up on his property to help reduce his energy bills. He found pretty much the same problems listed in that article on Pickens plus a few more, such as permits, town ordenances, neighbor lawsuits. He found that it wasn't worth the average citizen's time and money to put up a windmill.

Cape Cod, Mass. wanted to get rid of their unsightly power lines and move to more efficient energy. A man, a volunteer from the Army Corps of Engineers, worked out the pros and cons and it was found that it would be quite economical for Cape Cod to move to wind powered energy source. Everything was set to roll with the project when it was suddenly blocked by Sen. Teddy Kennedy. It seems that the area where the proposed windmills were to be placed was a favorite yachating location of the Kennedy family and they didn't want to look at the unsightly windmills.
