I have been accused of being psychic. The conversation has been moving forward, bringing together 'value' and 'worth,' 'time' and 'money.' Ideas have filtered in about the emotional component of desire, about the price vagaries of retail and the hidden factors in 'cost.' So what pops up on the Times site but this article:

Yes, it is really sad how these pointless icons and advertising slogans have just infiltrated our lives; it is difficult to ignore them and escape though, with recognition, perhaps one at least can fight it. There is too much buy, buy, buy and then what do you do? I would rather be saving my $$ for my son's schooling (and maybe, someday, my daughter's), my dream retirement or, at least, my next trip out West.
I felt so good about one project I have going - while in Lake George I saw an item of clothing that I just adored. Yeah, it was pricey and I was really there to get shirts for Bob and shoes for my arthritic feet. I stopped and thought, hey, I have some fabric like that at home....and then I searched up a sewing pattern that really darn close to the style.....you know how my thoughts tend to run.
And another thing I have on my plate, I was down in my son's cave and noticed that his comforter is getting threadbare. He has had this thick blanket since he was little - I recovered it in a masculine plain on one side, a flannel plaid on the other - but now it is getting worn out. So, let's drag out some more good cover fabrics and just whole-cloth quilt him up a couple new covers....
And there, I have everything I need already; just have to sit down and do it.

Don't get me started on Michael Moore. Can't stand the man and I refuse to watch any of his can't-say-the-word-I-want-to-describe-his-films. I did read a book on him while at Boaders & it showed what a liar and hypocrit he is.
I've been wanting to make a quilt. I've got enough fabric to make many. Once the craft room is clean again, I was going to start making lap robes to donate to the nursing home's "store". Some people crochet or knit them and donate them to the store for the residents or the visitors to purchase at a very reasonable price. The money is used to pay for activities for the residents.
Good luck on your stitching. (p.s. - you should do it for a living).
