I learned a long time ago that I just fail at sticking to specific word counts. I tried writing drabbles for Cait's birthday and ended up with ficlets because sticking to 100 words is something I can't do, apparently.
Still, when I saw
comment_fic's 42 word challenge, I had to give it a try. Miraculously, I manged to stick to the 42-word limit (my original try was around 45 words, but with a bit of trickery I managed to cut it down and get it to 42). It was fun, but not easy! My prompt was Amy/Rory, STOP! in the name of love, before you break my heart. As ever, my brain turned that into angst.
Rory pretends he doesn’t hear her call out “Doctor!” the first time they make love.
Amy asks him not to leave. Says it breaks her heart. Stop. Please don’t go.
Rory lies.
Back in five minutes, he says.
He isn’t.
She cries.
