Name: Arashi
Age: FOREVER 21 22
Email: likeacadence[at]gmail[dot]com
AIM/ICQ: fleeting tempest
CHARACTER INFORMATION:
Full Name: Itsuki
Race: Other
If Other, provide a description of how they differ from humans: As a tengu, Itsuki is ageless. He'll live forever unless killed. He also has shapeshifting abilities. His original form is a bird (a black bird that looks like either a crow or raven but is slightly biggerish), but he can obviously take human form. He is also quicker and more agile than the average human. Additionally, his strength in bird form is the same in his human form so he can LIFT PEOPLE (as long as they're not huge) UP IN HIS CLAWS. So much fun.
His longer and bigger than average nose, longish nails, his face becoming a little too red when he's flushed, and fondness are heights could be considered byproducts of being a tengu or simply his ineptitude at fully shapeshifting into a human and upkeep or quirks of his personality.
Other tengu may have other abilities like telepathy or teleportation or the ability to create illusions, but Itsuki has none of those skills.
Occupation: disgruntled test subject and messenger/errand boy for anyone who'll pay him
Faction, if applicable: he is at the Golden Hour more out of convenience, curiosity, and suspicion. He has no real loyalties to any faction.
Reputation & rumors: He would be known for being grumpy and telling you it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS if you happen to ask anything about his personal life. If he does answer a personal question, it's usually a different answer every time, so he's known as either silly or stupid, avoidant or secretive, or a pathological liar.
Also known as that weird dude who likes high places, and if you see a man on a roof or up in a tree, it's likely him. Also likes standing out in the rain and not running for cover, so could be considered pretty weird there, too. (This is how he gets clean. Mostly kidding.)
Age: appears to be in his early 20s (will admit to a different age every time grumpily saying he was abandoned at birth! he doesn't know his birthday! none of your damn business!)
Birthday: lololol (see above. also your calendar system sucks!!!!)
Birth Location: Japan
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 147 lbs
PB (Played-By): Jung Ilwoo
History: Born centuries ago out of an egg in a forest in Japan, Itsuki lived as a bird before he gained enough ability as a shapeshifter to turn into a human. Mostly, his first few years were spent with other tengu and other creatures that inhabited the forest he lived in (whether they be just animals or other supernatural beings).
As he and his friends grew older, they traveled closer and closer to human dwellings and villages. Causing mischief and trouble for the humans became a pastime especially as he continued witnessing the shortcomings of humans. Some humans deserved to be messed with and punished for their horrible behavior, his friends and he reasoned. And besides, it was obvious that humans were beneath them.
Years passed, and he almost began to outgrow pulling tricks on humans, or at least he didn't find it as fun or as amusing as he used to. He wasn't the only one, but most of his friends and siblings continued on as they normally did. Itsuki began spending more time in his human form and began to form an interest in the ascetic hermits and warrior monks that he came across. He liked their humble lifestyles and their dedication. Maybe some humans were better than some....
He didn't exactly integrate into living like a human since he didn't really hide he was a tengu, but he did end up interacting with humans more without as much mischief as he used to. Some of his tengu brethren thought him weird or out of his mind, but he just told them it wasn't any of their business.
Things began to really change, though, when he met a particular priestess at a nearby Shinto shrine. What happened next was something that Itsuki thought would never happen: he fell in love with a human. His growing infatuation was not unnoticed by some of his friends, though he did try hard to hide it from the miko herself. He spent more time getting to know the lady he was infatuated with, conversing, taking walks with, creepering on watching from afar....
One of his close friends decided they couldn't stand watching Itsuki be so smitten over a human and decided to do something to make him see reality. Through a either misguided or purposefully malicious plan, Kiyo, the miko was led to her death. Struck by shock, grief, disgust, and anger, Itsuki attacked his friend. How could his friend do that? There were definitely darker, more malicious tengu out there who hated humans passionately, but he thought they were wiser, that he and his friends would never cross that line since humans were much more fragile, shorter-lived, and sometimes more pitiable....
The fight ended in a sort of stalemate. Itsuki fled, emotionally and physically wounded. He could not deal with the environment or anyone there anymore, so he took to travel. He went west, and after a few months in western Japan, he decided to go even farther. Taking to bird form, he flew and hitched a ride on a ship to Korea (or Goryeo at the time). After a few years there, he went on to China before finally going on a voyage on the Silk Road to FOREIGN LANDS FULL OF CRAZY FOREIGN PEOPLE.
The closer he got to Balfour, the more he felt something pulling at him. As much as he tried to resist being drawn somewhere unknown, the feeling annoyed him too much for him to ignore (or at least that's how he reasoned it in his mind) and he found his way to Tyrole. Shrewd enough, he picked up the language at a reasonable rate (hanging around people in his bird form... sort of inconspicuously) and on the view of Others and learned of the Golden Hour. As soon as his English was passable enough, he went to the Golden Hour in his human form and reluctantly agreed to undergo their tests. He's been living at the Golden Hour for a few months now, only staying and having approached the Golden Hour because of their policy with Others. He still isn't sure how much they should be trusted... and at least they do offer him a place to stay that he doesn't have to worry too much about. In the recent months, he's offered and picked up jobs as being a messenger or errand boy just so he can get out and about and earn some loose change while he's at it.
Personality: Disgruntled and grumpy describe Itsuki best. He is annoyed rather easily and is difficult to please even though he never actively looks to be. His low expectations of everyone and everything leave him dissatisfied as even though he expects to be disappointed, he becomes even more disappointed when he is, which makes him even snappier. His distrust of people is not a secret, and he does not hide it when he dislikes you.
He has much disdain for overly arrogant, greedy, and vain people. He secretly appreciates people who are (or people that he sees as) humble or pure as those are traits that he believes are laudable with people so flawed, twisted, and easily corrupted. It disgusts him how awful people can be, but it is a reality he does acknowledge and believe in. In a way, he looks down on people, and there is still a small part of him that doesn't view humans as equals to him.
As prickly or gruff as he can be, Itsuki is not completely without a sense of humor. He still has a small streak of mischief in him and still appreciates a well-played prank or act of mischief or nicely worded insult. He is also most comfortable outdoors, especially in high places. With his love of nature, you can likely find him on a roof or up in a tree when he feels cooped up. He is also far from heartless and is riddled with soft spots in that if you manage to endear yourself to him or move him, he'll maybe, possibly, coincidentally and eventually help you - surreptitiously, quietly, and in the most stupidly roundabout way, probably.
Personality Keywords: grumpy, judgmental, condescending, sort of hypocritical, easily fed up, suspicious, indignant, full of bluster, secretly hopeful, soft
Appearance: Even if he weren't more or less ageless, Itsuki'd still look babyfaced for his age. Tall and lean, he is very much on the skinny and thin side. He could almost considered gangly if he didn't appear so comfortable in his own skin. However, he still definitely looks like he could use a sandwich or twenty, though.
His nose is a bit larger and longer than one would consider fitting on an otherwise attractive face. He is by no means pale, tan from being out doors often, but it is easy to notice when he's flushed (via drink, excessive sun exposure, anger, embarrassment or otherwise) because the red he turns is a bit too red. His dark hair is usually unkempt and disheveled, though not exactly completely filthy (but what was bathing in the Renaissance period anyway).
His style of dress can be considered negligent or crazy since he just puts on whatever he can find or get his hands on. What is color coordination? What is matching styles of clothes? He does seem to be fond of crazily dyed clothes, though, since it means it is more pricey or worth more, and that is nice.
Languages Known: Japanese, some Korean and Chinese, very sparse Mongolian, English
Skills: some martial arts, a little swordsmanship, FLYING pretty good at climbing trees and scaling walls and jumping roofs, running?(Practical skills, such as public speaking, good with machinery, etc.)
Strengths: strangely very good at adapting to new places, shrewd though not exactly intelligent, good at climbing, has a very good sense of balance, wiry, good endurance
Weaknesses: overly judgmental, easily embittered, easily irritated, bad temper, somewhat gullible, self-deceptive, a bit too self-absorbed, can't easily consider or understand others' views sometimes, sensitive about his nose :(, can never gain any weight (he doesn't like it when stronger, bigger people can just push him away, okay)
