But you're hurting me from inside of my head

[Filtered to the Legion of Doom, Edward Nigma, and pretty much everyone he's contacted in regards to this post]

I think our friend Nigma has, once again, neglected to consider the finer points of telepathy...as, perhaps, all of you may have. Namely, if he's asking you all for ways to defeat a telepath, then he doesn't have any now. So he's ( Read more... )

[The second Lex hears Schuldig on the phone, he immediately equips himself with his Anti-Telepathy shield removed from his warsuit, attaching it it the back of his neck.]

Ah... so you're Schuldig.

[Now that gets his attention. He doesn't necessarily focus in on any one person's thoughts until they give him some reason to pay attention, but he caught the tail end of Lex's thoughts before they simply...vanished. He's only experienced that sudden emptiness through the death or, more recently, droning of someone he was listening to...

But the man doesn't sound droned at all. Certainly not dead. What is this?

Aside from legitimately troubling, if this is one of Edward's allies.]

It seems I've gained quite the reputation. So you're one of the people Edward's trying to con into settling his grudges for him?

Nigma is an associate of mine, so I trust to help him with whatever... problems he may face.

I haven't actually heard many good things about you,.

Why? Associating with him doesn't seem all that profitable, from where I'm standing, and he doesn't seem to have a single problem he hasn't single-handedly created for himself. Why anyone would want to help him clean up his own messes, I can't imagine.

Now there's a surprise. What have you heard about me?

I suppose I'm not helping him personally. I'm more the type to lend a helping hand now and again.

I've heard you misuse your powers. And a person capable of reading my thoughts in particular? I cannot abide this.

Subjective. How do you define 'misusing' my powers, exactly? And why is your definition the one that takes precedence?

It sounds like you just don't like the idea of someone knowing what you're up to, so you're letting Edward get rid of this inconvenience for you.

My definition matters because I know it is right.

I will not permit someone to peer into my thoughts. That is beyond blasphemous.

And I'm sure you're only wondering what I'm thinking about right now...

Hah. Egomania personified. "Anything I don't like is wrong."

You'd be surprised. The more I know about you, the less I need telepathy to predict your thoughts. Every word you speak arms me further. But I'd put a lot of money on at least one of your thoughts being "Am I keeping him out, and if I'm not, how would I know?"

You wouldn't, by the way. If anything goes wrong with that delicate instrument of yours...well, you'll be the last to know.

Please. Trying to frighten me with paranoia? I've used this device on far better telepaths than you and personally built this device myself.

I know it to be fool proof.

And even so, though I did help Nigma, I don't see why you would oppose me as I intend to break us out of this hellhole.

And, of course, delicate technology works flawlessly forever. [Schuldig sounds rather bored.] Especially ripped from its proper housing and lent out to men with no common sense. Just out of curiosity, if you wind up loaning this to Edward, what will you be wearing while he's got it? A tinfoil hat?

I oppose anyone who makes a special effort to join up with people trying to fuck me over. It's this terrible habit I have.

When I've built it. The yes. Yes it does. And don't you think I've managed to build spares?

Nigma and I are colleagues, so I owed it to him... and he owes me.

So, let me get this straight. You've gone from being someone I didn't give a damn about before to someone who's actively defying me, arming my enemies, and trying to stifle my abilities. This is your plan for getting me to leave you alone? It seems like you've suddenly decided to provoke me in every possible way and make it so I almost have to find some way of dealing with you.

Have you ever heard the phrase 'self-fulfilling prophecy'? Or 'paranoid egomaniac'? [And Schuldig doesn't use the word egomaniac lightly.]
