[It's the silence that snaps him awake - more dissonant than any actual sound could ever be. It's like he's been struck deaf inside his own head. No, worse than that; while a person might have encountered a lack of sound before in their lives, Schuldig has almost never had any lack of thoughts to listen to. Listen, hell; they've practically fought ( Read more... )

[Schuldig snaps a glare at her. A child - not that this means anything to him. Not only doesn't he have any morals that would make him hold back against a kid, he's used to not judging children by their size or age. He could practically turn a man's brain inside out at that age, after all.] Did you have something to do with this? [His voice is low, and dangerous.]

[You could always tell when someone was dangerous by the look in their eyes. Almost by instinct, Misaka's hand jerked into her pocket and pulled out a penny. She held it between her thumb and forefinger, her arm outstreched toward Schuldig.]

No, I didn't so don't try anything stupid.

[Schuldig's eyes fixate on the penny. He's worked with Nagi long enough to know that anything can be a projectile to a telekinetic, and Nagi could probably fire spare change like a bullet if he felt like it - which means that, although he doesn't know this girl or what she's capable of, he's at least intelligent enough to err on the side of caution.] Then why are you here?

Because I have to be, just like everyone else.

I never doubted it. But who is 'everyone else', exactly? [He shifts, as if to step closer, but doesn't actually move. He's watching the penny as he does so; he may be testing to see just what she's planning to do with it, or how twitchy her proverbial trigger might be.]

[She doesn't move. As a matter of fact, she didn't have any desire to blow a massive hole in the wall.]

Everyone else is everyone you talk to here.

And where is here? [Schuldig doesn't make any attempt to test his luck; he'd been hoping to prompt her into perhaps firing a warning shot and getting a measure of her, but he'd prefer not to risk the warning shot being aimed right between his eyes.]

This place is called Mayfield. In America.

America...? Of all the places to be trapped in. [Briefly, disgust wins out over anger and instability.]

You're just going to have to deal with it. Now...you still have a problem or am I going to have to fix you up?

How would you do that, if you had to? [He's still intrigued.]
