When it doesn't seem like Tess will be going anywhere for a while, Clark makes a cup of tea and brings it out to the porch, sitting down next to her and holding it out to her.

She takes it, wordlessly, and then just cradles it in her hands. It might be a little too hot, but she doesn't seem to notice, or care.

Tess merely sighs again and does what he asks. Pretty much all the fight is out of her at the moment.

Clark gets Tess settled on the couch with a blanket and more tea, then goes out to find a cow to cook up.

"You can buy me a burger in a bit, okay?" She offers, managing a small smile. "Just ...sit with me?"

"Okay," he says, relieved that she's not bleeding to death or something on the couch. He sits next to her and puts an arm around her, nudging her to lean against him.

She does, getting sick of the scarf around her neck. So she removes it. "There's some stuff you're not going to like."

"What's going on, Tess? Are you in trouble?" He sighs and looks down at her, catching sight of the deep and ugly bruise on her neck. Startled, he brings a hand up to touch it without really realizing what he's doing.

"Who did that to you?"
