Catching up with kneel-majorzod

It never fails to amaze Tess how much work can pile up while she's away, even when she has someone helping her out. That her concentration on said work is almost non-existent is not so surprising, considering how not well that time away went. Well, when she was left to her own devices, anyway ( Read more... )

It's rather late in the evening when Zod sets foot inside the mansion and makes his way to Tess' office. Arriving later than expected isn't something he usually does--if anything, he makes an early appearance--but today is different.

Whether or not Tess will even notice his timing the Major doesn't know; nor is he really giving it much thought. He'll simply open the double doors, as he's done so many times before, and wander inside, coming to a stop a few feet away from Tess' desk.

He's also going to remain silent and let her speak first when she does acknowledge his presence, which also might be a little unusual for him. But again, he isn't giving it much thought.

Tess notices not only his late arrival but his silence. And she'll let him know in her own very special Tess way: Sarcasm.

"How nice of you to make an appearance."

Zod just watches her for another moment before he says anything. And when he does speak, his voice is rather quiet.

"Apologies. I've had a busy day."

She'll do the same to him, leaning back in her chair. "Father-son bonding?" No point in wasting more time.

"I didn't create anything," Zod points out quietly. "But I do know what he can do and that he is capable of a great deal of destruction. I also know he is strong enough to kill Clark and that he was sent here to do so."

He shifts a couple of steps closer to her. "But surely you must understand my desire to do what I can for him, Tess. In a matter of speaking, he's the only family I have."

"You, future you, original recipe you, whatever. The bottom line is he's here because of Zod." Tess eyes him curiously. "And you are here because of the beast Davis becomes. Did you know that?"

Zod raises an eyebrow, tilting his head to one side and regarding her curiously. "What do you mean?"

"The orb," Tess starts as an explanation. Because it always comes back to the orb. "It would only release you once Kal-El had defeated Doomsday. That was the key."

"You'll have to be more specific than that," he tells her quietly. "Where would you keep him? And how would you find the time to constantly keep track of him?"

"Well, I could set up his old room, but he wasn't really here that long to get attached."

Tess tilts her head at him, eyeing him curiously. "He can stay where he is. Stability is important and if he's comfortable where you've set him up, I think it would be detrimental to change that. And you don't need to worry about my multitasking skills. As I've said, I've done this before."

Zod frowns slightly. "But I'm guessing you had him much closer last time. It would have been much easier to keep tabs on him that way. I'm not doubting your ability to multitask; I am merely pointing out that you won't be able to keep a constant watch on him. Perhaps one of my own people would be better suited to that task."

"No, actually, I didn't have him close. I kept track of him without him even knowing I was doing so." Well done, Zod. You've riled up the hormonal woman.

"And sure, let's just let one of your people look after him, someone he doesn't know, someone who knows nothing about him and what to look for if he even starts getting back into his old habits." Tess is on a roll. This last part? Is just for fun. "I know, let's have Faora do it."
