Chapter: 17/?
Rating: M
Pairing: Gabe Saporta/William Beckett, Alex Gaskarth/Jack Barakat, Ryan Ross/Brendon Urie, Alex Suarez/Nate Novarro Cassadee Pope/Hayley Williams
Summary: William Beckett is a shy, quiet, reserved, academically perfect student. Gabe Saporta is a screw off Senior who is one performing arts credit away from not graduating. When Gabe is faced with the decision to repeat his senior year or participate in the school play, he opts for the play, not intending to snag a lead role in the production of Jesus Christ, Superstar. What surprises him even more than his role as Judas in the musical is William Beckett, who holds the role of Jesus. At first, Gabe is dumbfounded by the transformation William undergoes when he is onstage, turning from a shy, quiet loner to a tall, thin powerhouse. As the play continues, Gabe begins to wonder how William can be so loud, so vibrant on stage, when the second he slips out of his role and back into his own skin, the boy can barely speak above a whisper.

William hit the dance floor after five beers. He was wasted enough to not really know what he was doing, but he was able to stand upright and dance. He took Gabe’s hand, dragging the taller boy to the floor. “Dance with me,” he commanded loudly.

“William, you’re drunk,” Gabe stated. “You don’t want to dance with me.”

“Yes, I do!” William took Gabe’s hands, placing them on his own hips. “I know you’ve wanted to touch me. I’ve seen you looking at me.” William moved closer to him, grinding his hips against Gabe’s as he held Gabe’s hands in place.

“William, stop,” he whispered. “You don’t want this.”

“Dance with me!” William practically shouted. “Look, I’m only giving you what you want, alright? It’s just a dance, it’s not like we’re getting married or something.”

“Yeah.” Gabe sighed, trying to pull back. “But you’re drunk, you can’t gauge what you want when you’ve had that much to drink. In the morning, you’re going to hate yourself for doing this.”

“No, I’m not,” William stated. “Because I’m not going to remember it. I want it now. I won’t have to think about it tomorrow; just dance with me, Gabe.” He moved his hands, putting them around Gabe’s neck as he moved closer to him.

“Fine.” Gabe sighed. He wanted to turn William away, but the hips pushing against his own made it impossible for him to resist. It was true, he did want to dance with William, but the way in which he was getting what he wanted was not what he had expected. As William moved against him, he couldn’t help but think about how different drunk William was from sober William. He was so intrigued by the thin boy, but so confused at the same time. William was beautiful, smart and talented, but he was shut out from the rest of the world in ways Gabe could only understand as unfathomable past pain.

“What’s wrong?” William asked. “Am I doing something wrong?”

“Um, no. Why?” He bit his lip.

“You’re not into this. You’re just kind of…standing there.” William pouted. “I wanted to dance, so come on! Dance with me, please?”

“On one condition,” he stated. “I dance with you for a couple more songs and then you and I go outside and talk.”

“Okay.” William nodded, grinning as he pushed his body against Gabe’s, hips swaying seductively in time to the music. Neither boy paid attention to the looks they were getting, the whispers that were travelling around the room, but Gabe knew they were there anyway - how could they not be?

“Talking time,” Gabe said after two more dances. “Come on.” He took William’s hand, leading him to the porch. He had a lot of questions for William, and as he led the boy towards the porch swing, he felt guilty taking advantage of William’s intoxicated state, but he wasn’t going to get the answers out of William any other way, and he knew that.

“What are we going to talk about?” William asked, snuggling up next to Gabe.

“I don’t know,” Gabe lied. “What do you want to talk about?”

“Um…” William shrugged. “Anything?”

“Okay.” Gabe nodded, after all, William had just given him the go ahead he needed. “I wanted to ask you something.” He paused. “I just…why are you so intent that love doesn’t exist?”

“Because it doesn’t,” he stated. “I mean people care about themselves, that’s really it - I mean look at me, I don’t give myself to anyone else and I’m just fine.”

“Yeah, you’re the poster child for happy teenagers,” Gabe muttered under his breath.

“What?” William asked, clearly having not heard what Gabe had said.

“Nothing.” Gabe shook his head. “I guess that I just feel like someone can only have that much disbelief in love if someone has hurt them.”

“Yeah, maybe that’s true.” William shrugged.

“Did someone hurt you?”

“Not really.” William shook his head, looking down. “But no one ever loved me either.”

“So maybe the right person just hasn’t come along yet,” Gabe stated. “That doesn’t mean that love doesn’t exist. I mean I haven’t found my person yet.”

“I guess.” William shrugged again. “But look, I just don’t know, okay? I mean I don’t want to fall in love because I don’t want to trust someone with me, not when I know I can take better care of myself.”

“How do you know your care will always be better?”

“Because I know how to take care of myself,” William stated, his voice rising slightly. “Look, can we please not talk about this anymore? I don’t want to.”

“Okay, okay.” Gabe nodded, sensing William’s unhappiness with the subject. He wanted to push it, but he couldn’t; William wasn’t really himself and he could easily fly off the handle. “Do you want to go back inside?”

“No.” William shook his head, moving closer to Gabe.

“What do you want to do, then?” Gabe scooted away slightly, but William just moved closer, and he gulped.

“Come on,” William stated, crawling on to Gabe’s lap. He leaned in, pressing his lips against Gabe’s, but Gabe pushed him back.

“No, William.” He shook his head. “This isn’t a good idea.”

“Why not?” William asked, looking hurt, if nothing else. “It’s just a little fun.”

“Yeah, that’s not how this works.”

“I thought you liked fooling around,” William stated. “I’ve heard that you love shit like this, isn’t this what you want?”

“No, it’s not.” Gabe shook his head. “I’ve explained to you, I’m looking for someone to fall in love with, alright? Not someone to make out with for a night, and since it’s never going to be you, there’s no reason for us to do this.”

“It’s never gonna be me? Gabe, what are you talking about?”

“You’re drunk.” Gabe rolled his eyes, pushing William aside and standing up. “What I mean is I’m never going to be in love with you because you aren’t ever going to be in love with me, so even if I did want what you’re offering, it would be pointless, so why give you the stress?”

“Give me the stress?”

“If you make out with me tonight, you’ll regret come Monday.” Gabe headed for the door to the house. “Come find me when you’re ready to go home.” With that, he turned, re-entering the house.
