public knowledge about candice.

Candice started school a year earlier than most people due to being Very Mature and Very Smart; this means that for all of first semester this year, she was fourteen. At the start of 9th grade (age 13!) she really kind of looked it, but since then grew four inches taller and gained about fifteen pounds of physical maturity, so ... yes, there's a REASON a lot of people treat her like she's five--she's technically freshman-aged, even if she doesn't feel it or look it any more.

She has been in campus ministry since forever, basically, and is surprisingly active in Religion classes, even prone to debating, although she always stops just short of actually questioning the Word. (She kind of wants to, though, but that is not public knowledge.) In a capella choir she has had one solo to date, and is pretty good in step team even if she's missed practice twice this year in favor of ministry meetings. Occasionally her dancing is actually more provocative than is strictly allowed, but she doesn't mean to do that, it just happens. :( Blame that MTV.

Her older brother, Jason, is a senior and...kind of a fuck-up, although not to an extreme degree currently. He likes to party and is in a couple sports teams but may not last in any of them if he keeps it up.

Candice is adopted. Her parents are about the most whitebread people you'll ever meet. Her father also used to work, in a strictly blue-collar capacity, for a certain pharmaceutical company that a few other students have ties to; when said company went through a legal crack-down, they also experienced a large number of layoffs, and her father was one of the people to lose his job.

People who went to elementary school with her might remember that she actually has black curly hair, but changed it before junior high.

In ninth grade, Candice hit another student in a hallway between classes; he has since graduated, and never reported her, possibly because she actually broke his nose and that was presumably pretty embarrassing, she was 4'11" at the time. She pretty much doesn't talk about this ever, but he was probably just making fun of one of her friends.

Which leads me to: she's not...overtly challenging toward bullying, it's more like something she endures/tries to ignore in other people until she can't any more, and she's saying things she'll regret later! This is...clearly an awesome, cool-headed approach, but it's also probably not something that happens very often, since there are lots of other kids somewhat more conscious of these things than she is.

She is pretty naive for now, and has never had a boyfriend. Popular opinion is probably that she's kind of shy and spazzy around boys; she says "um" a lot and is usually sort of unsure of herself unless the pressure is taken off her to 'act right'.

At the start of 9th grade she had to take a series of IQ tests, but her parents elected not to divulge the results to her; this is only notable because she was allowed to skip two days of class to do it.

Talk of ghosts and the supernatural immediately gets her antsy and nervous, which can be easily dismissed as being easily frightened, but she's not at all scared of the dark and only cringes at horror movies when the gore is excessive. It's not unusual to hear her opine, critically, that something in, say, The Sixth Sense, "would never happen," and then swiftly follow it up with "...if ANY of that were real and not completely ridiculous."

Her best friend is Enfys Keel (with whom she has a strange but not uncrackable girl code of euphemisms and secret terms), and up until around this semester change she mostly otherwise hung out with other ministry kids; lately, her social circle is expanding to include some kids that are probably best considered "rebellious". This concerns her parents a whole lot.
