that time of year

Though today is cold, yesterday was unusually warm - 70 degrees and sunny with a slight breeze and the ground littered in yellow leaves. All day it felt a little magical and I thought: a year ago I was on the precipice of falling in love.

I let the dogs run themselves weary in the backyard while I sit on the stairs of the back deck cupping a hot cup of coffee and watching the sunlight slant through the trees. In the mornings the light is golden and I remember every Autumn all the way back like a series of stacked, transparent screens and with the sense that I could never coldly recall them but recognize them once the light goes all warm and sideways and the leaves rustle across the ground.

I put in my month notice at work and have less than a month to go with the library system here. By Christas Day we will have the car stuffed with clothes and dogs and be on our way  to Idaho.

I have been applying for jobs in the public library, a community college library and most recently a jail library which would be awesome. I ran across a jail librarian's blog of found objects and perused the items, an assortment of poems and prayers, repurposed magazines and defaced forms.
