This new Saturday morning habit of mine is kinda nice. Up early, a cuppa joe at Escape and a scone. I can't really think of a better way to really shake off the ick of a work week. The short list of stuff:
The more and more I get writing done and things shaped up, I can see doing this for a living somehow. While not the greatest at it, I do have people in my life that add to my own creative process and that seems to be the missing piece of what I am doing. The current project has kind of morphed into a collaborative thing and is moving along nicely for it. I am glad this part of the midwest is starting to attract more attention as far as the film industry is concerned. I have wanted to work in it (and who hasn't thought that?) but thanks to the genetic makeup of my parents, I have, as they say, a perfect face for radio, so I'll stick with writing. But Hollywood in Madison is kinda surreal though. On my way to work Friday morning, I swung by a place near the square to get a coffee, and I am pretty sure I saw Depp and Michel Mann. Unless there is a overabundance of short white guys who are flanked by LARGE black bodyguard type people, I think we have the famous in our midst. Oddly enough, I was more freaked out about the possibility of giving Mann the fanboy treatment. I mean I LOVED Depp as H.S.T in Fear and Loathing, as well as a dozen other roles. But, I would be lying if I didn't say the movie "Heat" didn't change my views on movies and what can be done with a pretty slim story but excellent vision. I have dug Mann since "Manhunter", which is a must see if you haven't. It's stuff like that which keeps my delusions of grandeur going. I don't know if it is something that I will ever really be a part of on a larger scale, but the stuff that I am doing now is making me smile more than I thought it would. And I would rather do something small-ish and keep it fun. So there has to be something said for that, right?
Other than that...life carries on.
Whatever ya'll are doing this weekend, have fun, and perhaps I'll even see a few of ya out.
