a skeptic and her ghosts

So. I don't know whether the majority of this was either all in my head or not, but at the time it freaked me out, being 12 and all. I've become a huge skeptic over time hahaha.

We moved into our house when I was in 2nd grade. It was a brand spanking new house in a brand spanking new community. And I didn't get on the my-house-is-haunted bender until maybe around the age of 10, so about 5th grade.

I can't really say when it all started, honestly. For a while I was convinced I felt something was watching me constantly (which may've just been my imagination), and then there was the unpleasant sound of someone walking around upstairs, especially in the master bedroom, despite no one being up there. And I'm not talking about average house creaking noises, it was someone-is-applying-pressure-to-the-floor noises. If that makes any sense, haha.

Before? my parents split, I invited a friend over and we decided to go around taking pictures to capture "orbs". There was a babysitter that night, and around midnight we turned off all the lights and went around taking pictures. The poor babysitter was completely freaked out about it and ended up calling over her boyfriend. They spent the entirety of the time huddled in the family room watching TV, which kind of ruined the mood.

Unfortunately, nothing credible came out in the pictures (we didn't even get the majority of the pictures back because we didn't use flash so they were completely black), despite how much I tried to find ANYTHING that could pass for an orb. Go me.

And now onto the more interesting stuff.

I was terrified of the master bedroom. I don't know why, but I felt really uneasy in or near it, which was kind of a hassle considering the master was right across the hall from my room. Since the majority of the walking noises came from it, that may've been it.

My mom took the house after my parents split. And one night all my sisters and I camped out in the master bedroom with my mom to watch movies. We'd done it several times before and nothing happened. We were all in sleeping bags on the floor, except my mom who was using her bed. I'm not sure when we went to bed, but oh man I sure do remember what time it was when I woke up.

I'm not even sure how to really explain it. Something, somehow, jerked me awake from the middle of deep sleep. It was incredibly sudden, kind of like something went BAM inside my head and boom I was completely awake. This hasn't happened to me before or since. Now, the first thing I saw when I woke up was my mom's alarm clock. It was 3 a.m. on the dot. I turned my head?

Haha, well hello ghost lady.

From what I remember, it was a figure of a woman. She walked right past me into the wall between the bathroom and door to the hall. It was like a huge mass of white smoke or fog, with the woman in the middle, and it was very bright. But I didn't look that long, because I was terrified. I've never been so frightened in my life, and I'm quite difficult to scare. So rather than stare at this horrifying figment that suddenly appeared, I pulled my sleeping bag over my head and waited.

I didn't wait very long. I had visions of some kind of grotesque, evil, ghostly monster face with glowy red eyes looming over me if I dared to peek out from beneath my sleeping bag, so I was pretty hesitant, but eventually I threw it off, grabbed the TV remote, and turned it on, which woke my mom up. She asked what the hell I was doing, I made something up, watched TV for about ten minutes, and then forced myself to go back to sleep. For all I know, it could've been some funky eye-adjustment to suddenly waking up like I had, but it was still scary, whatever it was. It's kind of ingrained in my brain.

I'm pretty positive nothing else like that has happened since. Some time later, my mom moved out of the house and my dad bought it from her, so now he's the one living there. And any uneasy or unnatural feelings, especially from the master bedroom, have ceased. And before anyone asks, no, I don't think whatever it was, if it actually was something, is/was following my mom. I haven't had any experiences in any of the other houses she's moved into. So I guess it just... moved on or something. My mom is also catholic and is strongly against the belief in ghosts/spirits if that's relevant to anyone.

And that's all I've got. Any theories or anything? It's been about 6 years since this occurred.
