Part of me wants to snigger uncontrollably, the other part is feeling for the cast and crew who are out of a job (I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the crew has been together, in whole or in part, since SG-1 started). While I've not seen the cast at work, I've heard good things about a number of them through various grapevines.
I personally never actually sat down and watched the show - more a matter of too much to watch and not enough time than a deliberate act to ignore it. I know there are those who are convinced that SGA was cancelled in favour of SGU. I've heard sufficient info from the people who were actually there and involved to believe it was more a case of the world's worst timing. Sorry Brad, that one was all you :) Sci fi fans are not stupid and I really wish the studios & production companies could get that through their seemingly very thick skulls. The audience out there is changing and it's about G*D time someone picked up on it...
Perhaps they could have waited until *after* the holidays to announce? Maybe not, seeing as SGU filmed on a staggered schedule (front half, back half with a big gap in the middle) and they would have expected to be back on set the first week of February or March (I pulled the film lists for the past two years). Which means the writers would likely have needed to be back to work now for the production teams to be ready to go by then.
As for what's ahead?? MGM is restructuring, and I have my fingers crossed that Bridge and her crew come through unscathed (notice I said *crew* - the writers and show producers are very overdue for a long holiday). People have been asking about the movies for a while. I'm wondering how you plan on filming them when they have rebuilt both stage 5 (SG Command) and stage 6 (Atlantis) into something else. The effects stage has also been remodelled. Anyone know if the offsite sets are still standing? The props (including the gates) and costumes have been on the auction block for a while now. There may not a whole lot to come back to, kiddies...
