"IT DON'T TAKE LONG TO KILL THINGS
NOT LIKE IT TAKES TO GROW."
~ Hud

By the time I was eight, Dean was already far more experienced than me in hunting and truth be told, I would have preferred it stayed that way. Once I found out about Dad’s true intent for leaving us at motels-he wasn’t a businessman, he was a hunter-I wasn’t so eager about learning how to kill the otherworldly. We were trained like soldiers before we knew what it was like to date.

My brother was a natural; just like dad. He picked up that rifle and used it like it was second nature to him. He never once complained about why we had to go out in the middle of the night to some abandoned farmhouse and vanquish a ghost. I know Dean was happy to be out there doing what dad did all hours of the night, but I wasn’t.

Unlike them, I was hesitant. I didn’t want to learn and I would’ve preferred to live a normal life, despite that our lives weren’t normal to begin with. Dad hunted for revenge and Dean did it to please him. I didn’t understand why I had to hunt when my brother was far better a hunter, and more eager. Why I was even forced into this type of work when I would’ve been happier continuing with soccer and making friends, pursuing that happy ending life.
