A private life, c'mon now
I said livin' gets to be
Just like a rat race, rat race
C'mon, I'm a-read between the lines
Fierce stuggle, a natural one
A Tough job gets to be
Just like a rat race, rat race
C'mon, I'm locked up in myself
"Rat Race" -Billy Idol

If Sam were experiencing a nightmare, then he’d surely want to be woken up. Unfortunately, this was no dream, but the mere reality of his strange and bizarre life. Some days it was a struggle to keep going on for him. Those four months without his brother and Sam felt like he was in a Hell himself. If it weren’t for the moral support of Ruby, then Sam would’ve either drunken himself to death, or gone on a suicide mission. But despite Ruby’s keeping him together, she also tempted him into a dangerous habit. He should’ve never trusted a demon; you can never trust one, so why did Sam fall for her cunning deceit? Because he was vulnerable.

Sam had lost so many loved ones; the women he’d grown to know and care for, his father, his brother, it was easy for someone like her to do the things she’d done, but worst of all was the fact he let her. Maybe a part of him had loved her, lusted after her even, but in reality he just needed her. Ruby had known this. In fact, she used his dependency against him; made him an addict for her blood. No, for demon blood. All for believing it was going to stop the Apocalypse from happening.

Not only did it turn Sam closer to the brink of darkness, but it brought forth the actual prince of darkness. He'd fought so hard, but in the end it was for all the wrong reasons. He'd been an idiot to even think that for a second what he was doing was good. This rat race he called life was becoming even harder to grasp, at least with all his faults at hand, he just hoped the two people he could rely on the most would forgive him.
