1. Halva: I love the heavy texture of Greek and Bulgarian Halva and it's combination of sweet and savory. My favorite flavors are plain and pistachio - I'm not to keen on chocolate flavorings as they mask too much of the natural sesame/honey flavor.
2. Half Life/Half Life 2: These two games provide one of the most compelling stories in modern game design. Also, the protagonist you play is a physicist with a Ph.D. from MIT, as opposed to the numerous other games where you play a Marine or soldier or somesuch.
3. Horten Ho 229: This late-WWII era prototype flying-wing fighter/bomber is one of the most aesthetically-pleasing planes ever designed. It possessed clean lines and an amazing profile. Fortunately for the allies, the Ho 229 didn't enter production before the end of the war - it was reputed to be superior to just about anything the allies were producing.
4. Happiness: This doesn't need much explanation - I prefer being happy with myself and those around me to being sad, depressed or angry.
5. High School: I loved my high school - Regis. For the first time, I felt intellectually challenged by the curriculum and my peers. I also discovered my love of debate there. Regis was so difficult that my freshman college coursework was comparatively easy. Also, unlike many Catholic schools, Regis and the Jesuits who taught there were extremely liberal and very open-minded. I'm definitely the man I am today because of my experiences at Regis.
6. History: I'm a huge history buff. I love going to historic places and learning about what came before. My favorite topics are WWII, the American colonial period and the Ancient World. I frequently feel that American politics and politicians would be better off if they paid better attention to past events - there are too many repeated mistakes.
7. Helping people: I get a great feeling when I help others.
8. Harold Dieterle: The winner of Top Chef season one was a favorite of mine from the show. Then he opened Perilla on Jones St. in Manhattan. Rachel and I check out dinner there - it's amazing. If you go, be sure to try the Spicy Duck Meatballs with Yam gnocchi and quail egg.
9. Hellboy: The movie, the animated show and the series of comics are all fantastic. Mike Mignolia's art, though, pushes the comic over the top for me.
10. The Horde: The Horde is one of the two political factions in World of Warcraft; it is an union of the Orc, Troll, Tauren, Forsaken (free-willed undead) and Blood Elf factions - groups that would be traditionally considered 'monsters' in fantasy-genre entertainment. In WoW, the Horde races are not evil. Instead, they are trying to survive in a world where the 'noble' races (Humans, Night Elves, Dwarves and Gnomes) aren't the altruistic creatures they usually are in fantasy. For the Horde!
