Chapter 2

In the morning the sky was again clear and the storm from last night felt like a distant memory. Rays of sunlight penetrated the serenity of the room through the curtains, casting the entire space in bright sunlight even though it was quite early. Jaejoong pressed his cheek closer to Yunho's chest, slowly waking up from deep sleep with the older man's arms still wrapped around him. He couldn't believe Yunho had held him like that for the entire night, so strongly at times Jaejoong had almost been unable to breathe properly. The shudders that had wrecked Yunho's body during the night before had finally calmed down and for the last couple hours Jaejoong was positive Yunho had finally gotten a bit of sleep too. For Jaejoong it had been the best night of his life by far.

He wiggled even closer to Yunho on the bed, felt the arms wrap around his torso tighter, insisting him to continue sleeping. But Jaejoong was wide awake, and in the early morning sunshine he could easily distinguish all the scars on Yunho's skin, and Jaejoong was extremely curious. He traced a particularly nasty looking scar under Yunho's collarbone with the tips of his fingers, delighting in the way Yunho let out a sleepy groan at his touch. Jaejoong let his fingers continue the traveling from Yunho's chest to his lips, as he payed close attention to the other man's reactions. When his forefinger slid across Yunho's upper lip, the hunter opened his eyes and looked down at the other.

"Sleep more," he mumbled, voice coming out raspy. Jaejoong arched his neck, trying to look cute so Yunho would kiss him again. He had only gotten one proper kiss last night and it hadn't been nearly enough. Jaejoong had a feeling nothing would ever be enough when it came to Yunho.

"I can't, I have to get up and help my mom," Jaejoong explained, stretching his body and pressing closer to Yunho. Suddenly the other man shifted and rolled them over on the bed, pinning Jaejoong down to the sheets. He grabbed Yunho's biceps and held his breath, loving the weight of the other man on top of him.

"I didn't hurt you?" Yunho asked, both eyebrows raised looking down at the other.

"What are you talking about?" Jaejoong giggled, "But we only slept. Don't you remember?"

"I remember alright," Yunho grinned, somehow looking pleasantly surprised, "Who knew..."

"Who knew what?"

"Nothing," Yunho shook his head, keeping eye contact with the younger as Jaejoong's arms wrapped around his neck. They looked into each other's eyes and Jaejoong felt himself blushing. Yunho didn't seem to be in any hurry, nor was he about to really do anything, and so they stayed there, only staring at each other.

Jaejoong licked his lips, waiting, and knowing it was going to come. Seeing the mental struggle play out in Yunho's eyes Jaejoong stayed completely still, wanting to let Yunho know he was very available for whatever might have crossed his mind. He knew had he said something he would have ruined the moment and he quite liked having Yunho on top of him. A moment passed, long enough for Jaejoong's lips to get dry again but then, Yunho finally leaned in for a kiss.

He pressed their lips together softly, again holding Jaejoong's face in his palms, and breathed roughly through his nose. Jaejoong let out a quiet whimper, just about to part his lips when a knock on the door interrupted them.

"Breakfast is served," came the voice of Jaejoong's youngest sister from behind the door and Yunho jumped off of him, hurriedly looking around the room to find an escape. Jaejoong sat up in bed and slapped a hand over his mouth in fear of having one of his sisters find them in such a compromising position.

"I'll come down in five," Yunho said loudly, and started pulling on his pants while Jaejoong got up as well. He grabbed a blanket from Yunho's bed, wrapped it around himself and got to the door before turning around and looking at the other.

"See you," he whispered, eyes wide and panicked, and ran out of the room to the bathroom on the opposite side of the narrow hallway. Jaejoong sat down to the freezing cold toilet seat, squeezed the blanket around his shoulders and stared at the wall in front of him.

"Darn it," Jaejoong muttered, both angry with his sister for interrupting them and frustrated that his second kiss had only been so short. Last night already felt like a passing dream, something so exciting he could only hope to experience again.

Jaejoong got up from the toilet seat and washed his face with cold water. His reflection in the mirror still had flushed cheeks and eager eyes - a look he had never seen on himself before.

"Calm down," Jaejoong whispered to himself, trying to reassure his racing heart, "Yunho is going to stay for a couple more days, you still have time."

His family was still having breakfast together with Yunho and another guest who had arrived last night when Jaejoong finally made his way to the dining room. He had changed clothes and washed up quickly, but the blush on his cheeks wouldn't disappear no matter how many times he scrubbed his face with scented soap. Luckily his sisters spent no attention when Jaejoong sat down at the table and grabbed himself a loaf of bread.

"It looks like the storm broke down our backyard fence last night," Jaejoong's mother said as he placed a fried egg directly from the pan to the plate in front of Jaejoong. "More eggs, Yunho dear?"

"Thanks ma'am," said Yunho, who was again dressed in his very official looking uniform, and accepted the eggs Jaejoong's mother dumped onto his plate.

"I was hoping you could fix it up, you are staying for a couple more days, right?" she continued, "You wouldn't have to do it for free, of course."

"I don't mind," Yunho replied, "Saw the look of it when I arrived yesterday, your fence is in no condition to keep off the beasts."

"Is that so?"

"Maybe Jaejoong here could help me fortify it," Yunho suggested as Jaejoong's mom sat back down at the end of the table. Jaejoong looked up from his eggs surprised, but extremely glad.

"I can help him," he said immediately, "That way we can finish faster."

"I'm not sure it's a good idea for you to stay so close to the forests."

"He's safe with me," Yunho assured, glancing at the younger man sitting next to him, "Besides, he's about to reach the age of a man so he should know how to take care of the inn."

"I guess you do have a point," said his mother, agreeing to Yunho's suggestion.

And so, Jaejoong put on his coat and boots and marched to the backyard with Yunho, eager to spend the day with him. They walked along the side of the fence while Yunho looked for weak spots before they reached the part behind the chicken coop that had collapsed last night. The sun was shining brightly and Jaejoong took off his coat, hanged it on the fence and watched Yunho walk around now staring at the ground looking deeply worried. The soil was muddy and gross, and Jaejoong's boots stuck to it like it was cold porridge.

"This isn't good..." Yunho mumbled, crouching down and touching his fingers to the traces he saw on the ground. There were feathers scattered everywhere.

"What is it?"

"I think something came through that fence last night, attacked a bunch of your hen," Yunho announced, following the trail to the coop and back to the destroyed fence. "Your mom probably didn't notice since the hole was this far behind."

"A beast?" Jaejoong gasped, both terrified and excited. It had been a long while since anything like this had happened - normally things were so peaceful around there.

"Good thing I'm here," said Yunho, "Otherwise you might be in trouble. I can kill the wolf if it comes back."

"Do you think it would try to get into the house?"

"It might. Once you run out of hens," Yunho looked up from what remained of the fence and met Jaejoong's eyes. "I don't think you should be spending any time outside. It might be able to smell you."

"But I'm safe with you, aren't I?" Jaejoong asked, pushing both of his hands into his pockets, "And I can help."

"If you insist... We should do this quick then. We need boards and lots of barbed wire. You have that, right?"

"In the storage, yeah."

"Lets get to it then."

It took them a good few hours to repair the collapsed part of the fence. Mostly it was Yunho who did all the hard work but Jaejoong soon figured out he was pretty good at wrapping barbed wire around the planks Yunho nailed to the fence to make it more sturdy. Yunho's fingers were too rough and clumsy but Jaejoong's delicate and precise and so, they worked in perfect harmony. While repairing the fence Jaejoong learned many things about the other man.

Yunho told him stories about the cities he had visited, about the monsters he had killed and the people he had met during his journeys. Even though the scratches Jaejoong got from the wire hurt his fingers he was perfectly happy - so happy that he too started telling Yunho about his life at the inn. He told Yunho all about the work he did, how his family had kept the inn for countless years, and how bored he often was when there were no customers or work to do. Yunho listened well, and even though Jaejoong was afraid his stories were nowhere near as interesting as the adventures Yunho had gone through, Yunho kept asking him questions until Jaejoong's throat was sore from talking.

Much later in the afternoon one of his sisters brought them sandwiches and a jug of pumpkin juice - they sat down on the ground next to the horse stable where the grass wasn't as muddy and started eating. The sun was still shining brightly - it hadn't given them a break the entire day - and a gentle spring breeze kept toying with Jaejoong's hair, tousling it completely. They rested their backs against the wooden wall of the stable, both even more exhausted after eating.

"It's so nice here," Yunho sighed, looking at the scenery in front of him, "Looking at this you would never know what goes on in the cities."

"It might be dangerous there but at least you get to live your life," Jaejoong replied, "Here I have nothing, days go by without nothing happening at all."

"I wouldn't call this living," Yunho said, eyes fixated on something far in the distance, "Being on the road all the time. Having to kill."

"Why can't you just stay someplace nice?"

"I can't," the other man mumbled, "This is the way it's supposed to be."

"Why?" Jaejoong turned to look at him, not understanding at all. Yunho had pushed his hair away from his face and his forehead was sweaty, but he still looked unbelievably handsome.

"For reasons I can't explain to you," he replied, also turning to look at the young man sitting next to him. "Maybe someday you'll understand."

"Don't you have a home?"

"Of course I do," Yunho smiled, obviously remembering something, "But I don't get to visit. I'm too busy saving people."

"You're a hero," Jaejoong smiled as well, feeling butterflies fluttering somewhere around his heart and it was true. Yunho was a hero - a person who could get pretty much anyone but who very much seemed to like Jaejoong too.

"I'm anything but," Yunho sighed turning his gaze away, leaving Jaejoong feeling puzzled.

That night it was Yunho who knocked on Jaejoong's door first. The day had been long but in the end they had managed to do a somewhat good job on fixing the fence. However, the wind was blowing again, rattling the glass windows and looking out, Jaejoong had a feeling they would have to get back to it the next morning. If there was going to be another storm it might tear down parts of the fence - even if the beast from last night didn't come back.

Jaejoong was again laying awake in bed. He had considered going knocking on Yunho's door like last night, but was worried about bothering the older man. At dinner Yunho had seemed tired and the last thing Jaejoong wanted to do was to make Yunho dislike him. He'd had so much fun working with Yunho on the fence today he didn't want to ruin the mood. The knock on his bedroom door caused Jaejoong's heart to jump up to his throat and sit up in his bed, but the person behind it didn't wait for Jaejoong's answer before entering the room. Yunho closed the door after himself and walked right over to the bed, still wearing his now dirty outfit from before.

"Yunho?" Jaejoong whispered, both excited and surprised when the other lifted up the blanket to slide under the covers with Jaejoong. For a moment Jaejoong felt dazed from Yunho's sudden close proximity and was unable to say anything more.

"You alright?" Yunho asked with a hushed tone, placing a gentle hand on Jaejoong's hip under the blanket, "Looks like there's going to be another storm."

"I'm fine," Jaejoong smiled, lying back down next to Yunho and looking up at the other's handsome face, "You didn't change?"

"Oh, right," Yunho glanced down at his dirty clothing like he hadn't thought of it, "I was worried so I didn't have time."

"Worried about what?"

"I think I should sleep next to you tonight, just in case," Yunho spoke fast as the hand on Jaejoong's hip tightened its hold, "You'll be safe even if the beast comes back and gets into the house. Your family will be safe, it will smell you first."

"That seems like a good idea," Jaejoong replied a little too quickly but Yunho didn't seem to notice it. His arms wrapped around Jaejoong's body like vines, pulling him closer until Jaejoong was flush against the other man's wide chest, arms and legs tangled. There was no need for thick blankets because Yunho was more than enough to keep him warm.

Closing his eyes, Jaejoong pressed his nose to the crook of Yunho's neck, deeply breathing in his scent. It felt like somebody was constantly pulling up his cheeks - it was impossible not to smile, for Jaejoong felt so happy he could have shouted out in joy. Yunho's hand was in his hair, stroking the back of his head like Jaejoong was a particularly adorable little cat.

"I really like you, Jaejoong," Yunho then whispered, lips pressed against the smaller one's forehead. That made Jaejoong's heart stop and he looked up, meeting the sincerity in Yunho's gaze with his eager eyes. The familiar twinkle was there but Yunho seemed very much serious. He couldn't believe it - what was there to like about someone who's life was so boring and adventureless?

"I mean it," Yunho stated - Jaejoong's disbelief had probably been visible in his eyes - but then Yunho leaned in to kiss him, and Jaejoong forgot about everything. Immediately reaching up to grasp Yunho's face Jaejoong raised both of his hands, pulling Yunho's lips closer and putting everything he had to the kiss. Jaejoong parted his lips to Yunho's tongue as Yunho rolled over him, again letting Jaejoong feel all his body weight on top of him like earlier in the morning, lips moving in a lazy rhythm. He felt Yunho's tongue under his upper lip, then sliding next to his tongue, causing every bit of blood Jaejoong had in his body to start boiling. It was very hard to breathe with each gasp getting caught in his throat from trying to stop himself from moaning.

Then Yunho's lips moved south from his lips to his neck and Jaejoong completely gave up. His eyes fluttered shut as a soft moan left his lips, back arching from the bed to offer Yunho more room to work with. The other man sucked a patch of skin to his mouth, teeth gracing over sensitive spots, and Jaejoong held onto him never wanting to let Yunho go. They kissed again, this time more courageously, hungrily and passionately. Jaejoong barely paid any attention to the low rumbling coming from Yunho's throat when their lips were plastered together like that, both trying to get as much as possible as fast as they could. With steady fingers Jaejoong reached down to open the buttons on Yunho's shirt one by one.

As soon as the buttons were open Jaejoong pushed the shirt aside with a little help from Yunho, and then slid his hands underneath the fabric of his undershirt. He let out a shuddering breath at the feel of Yunho's abdominal muscles, let his nails press against the flesh, and guided his fingers down to his crotch. Yunho's cock was hard and heavy under his palm and Jaejoong wanted to touch more of it, but then felt something strange. Yunho's body on top of him had started shaking again, like he was again struggling to contain something that was about to burst out of him. Yunho pulled back from the kiss to meet Jaejoong's unsure eyes, gaze darkened by lust.

"Slow down," Yunho's voice came out as a low growl, "Please, Jaejoong... I need to calm down..."

"I don't want you to be calm," Jaejoong insisted, also sounding breathless, "Why do you try to resist so much? I told you I'm not a child..."

"You don't understand," Yunho said with his free hand caressing up and down Jaejoong's side, "We can't... I don't trust myself-"

"I don't understand at all what you're talking about," Jaejoong took a hold of Yunho's face and held it in his palms. He lifted his chin and pressed another soft kiss on Yunho's bow shaped lips, successfully causing Yunho to forget whatever he had been about to say. Distracting Yunho was so easy. Yunho replied with another, hungrier kiss that quickly turned deep as Jaejoong wrapped both of his legs around Yunho, desperately wanting more of it.

When Yunho first rolled his hips against Jaejoong's body, the younger let out a loud, unabashed whimper. Yunho did his best to shut him up with a kiss, not wanting everyone in the house to hear but it felt so good, and Jaejoong clung onto Yunho's back as he continued to rock his hips against Jaejoong slowly. He could feel everything - every muscle in Yunho's body and the hardness of his erection pressed so tight against his - and with the sudden pleasure Jaejoong was worried he was going to come too quickly and embarrass himself completely. Their eyes met and Jaejoong looked deep into Yunho's, mouth parted in soft puffs of breath, both intoxicated with each other.

"Too much?" Jaejoong whispered, worried that Yunho was going to stop but the other shook his head looking more determined and kept moving. One of Yunho's hands traveled down Jaejoong's side and finally slipped in between his legs, cupping the small tent in Jaejoong's sleeping pants and squeezed it gently. Jaejoong let out another involuntary moan, kinda wishing Yunho would stop looking at him and just kiss him already because it was embarrassing, but Yunho did none of that.

He smiled, looking down at the boy underneath him, and calmly moved the trousers aside to push his hand inside them. At this point Jaejoong was really struggling to keep on breathing but wasn't going to stop it as Yunho wrapped his fingers around Jaejoong's lenght, stroking it loosely before rubbing over the head with his thumb.

"Ah," Jaejoong moaned, turning his head to the side to hide his flushed cheeks. Yunho's lips found his neck again, kissing the pale skin as his hips continued rocking, hand down in Jaejoong's pants stroking him at the same time. Jaejoong suddenly understood what it was that was so great about sex, about sharing that kind of intimacy with another person. No-one had ever touched him there before but it wasn't shameful or awkward - Yunho kept his eyes on Jaejoong, his gaze dark but understanding, and they looked at each other, unable to tear their eyes away.

Then something Jaejoong hadn't been expecting happened. The look in Yunho's eyes suddenly turned ominous, like some other being had taken control of him, and even though he seemed to still be fighting back, something took over him. The hand inside Jaejoong's pants had stopped moving.

"Yunho?" Jaejoong said softly, reaching up and stroking the older man's hair. "What is it?"

"Urghhh," mumbled Yunho, shaking his head and pulling his hand back up. He took a hold of Jaejoong's hips and squeezed the flesh in his palms roughly, like trying to ground himself on the smaller boy. He then lowered his face to the crook of Jaejoong's neck and breathed in deeply like the scent of the other somehow gave him life, severe shudders going up and down his spine.

"Yunho? You're scaring me," Jaejoong whimpered, trying to push Yunho further back by the shoulders but it didn't work. He felt Yunho's tongue coming out and licking around his Adam's apple. At first Jaejoong thought Yunho had continued whatever they had been doing but in his gut he had feeling things weren't exactly right. Yunho was holding him down weirdly, like he had never done before, and before Jaejoong could really do anything to stop it, there was suddenly sharp pain on his neck. Letting out a pained cry, Jaejoong realized Yunho had bit him and tried to push the older man away, this time with much more force.

He was starting to panic - Yunho wasn't letting him go but was now hungrily licking and sucking on whatever wound he had created on the pale skin of Jaejoong's neck - and it hurt so bad Jaejoong gasped in pain, trying to shout for help but unable to do so. The pillow under his neck and the fabric of his shirt felt wet like blood had trickled down and stained it. Jaejoong's finger slipped down from Yunho's shoulders as he grew weaker, lost every bit of strength from his body and noticed his eyes getting cloudy. He couldn't see or really understand what was happening but knew something was terribly wrong.

The last thing Jaejoong saw before loosing consciousness, was Yunho's face above him, mouth covered in blood, looking utterly shocked.

Jaejoong woke up to the feeling of someone caressing his hair. It was still dark but so he couldn't have been out for more than a couple hours, but his gaze was still unfocused and mind cloudy. What in the world had just happened?

"Please, wake up, please...." he heard Yunho's worried voice, and realized it was him brushing through Jaejoong's silky hair with his fingers. "I'm so sorry... I'm so..."

Jaejoong opened his eyes to see Yunho hovering above him, muttering words in a clearly shaken state. It was too hard and he still felt tired, and so Jaejoong closed his eyes again and let out a weak cough. He was hurting all over but the touch of Yunho's hand somehow soothed him.

"Jaejoong? Jaejoong, are you alright?" Yunho asked feverishly, taking a hold of the smaller man's face. Jaejoong felt a drop of something wet hit his nose and opened his eyes once more. Yunho was crying.

"What happened?" he croaked, reaching up to touch Yunho's cheek but the older man pushed his hand away.

"I stopped the bleeding and it looks like the wound is starting to close up," he explained, "You'll be alright, just stay awake, please..."

"Did you... What did you..." Jaejoong tried to ask but he was too tired, his head was hurting and Yunho was talking too loudly. "Did you bite me?"

"It's okay, you're okay," Yunho spluttered, both hands shaking wildly as he held Jaejoong down, "Don't move, you lost a lot of blood..."

"Why did you bite me?" he continued, "It doesn't make any sense..."

"I should have known it wasn't a good idea, I couldn't control it," Yunho said, meeting Jaejoong's eyes with a panicked look, "You have to forgive me I didn't meant to do it... It was just... You were so... I wanted you... Wanted to mark you..."

"What on earth are you talking about?" Jaejoong asked loudly as the strenght slowly started returning to his limbs. It felt like his mind was filled with puzzle pieces that didn't quite fit together, and with every word that came out of Yunho's mouth he felt more and more confused.

"It's how we mark our mates," Yunho rambled on, clearly not even realizing his words didn't make any sense, "It's safe for us but it could have killed you and now you can't... Damn it... I wanted you to be mine and it just burst out of me!"

"Yunho," Jaejoong said firmly, sitting up and wincing as a jolt of pained pierced his neck, "Calm down and explain everything. You're not making any sense."

But Yunho didn't reply. He looked up and down Jaejoong's body, shaking his head and looking slightly nauseous like the blood on Jaejoong's shirt made him feel sick. Not really sure why he did so, Jaejoong reached out and took Yunho's face in his hands, pulling him close and brushing his lips against the other's. Yunho was scared and he was scared too, shocked beyond words to be perfectly honest, but still wanted to understand what on earth had just happened. Yunho visibly relaxed and let out a shuddering breath.

"I- I have to leave-" he crumbled when Jaejoong tried to kiss him, determinedly pressed down both of his hands and guided Jaejoong back down to rest on the bed. "You're safer the further away you are from me."

"What?" replied Jaejoong, not understanding at all. The more he tried to get it the more his head started to hurt, but he also didn't want Yunho to leave him when so many questions were still unanswered. Desperately trying to think of ways to make Yunho stay, Jaejoong spoke again. "But what about the beasts? What about being safe for the night-"

"They won't harm you anymore," Yunho said darkly, "They won't touch what's mine."

Tears of sheer frustration started filling Jaejoong's eyes. He might as well been asking questions from a tree trunk for Yunho wasn't telling him a thing. He watched the other man walk up to the dresser, open up a drawer and pull out a clean shirt for Jaejoong to wear. There were blood stains on Yunho's uniform as well.

"I'll wash your uniform for you," Jaejoong said, his voice coming out weird, "If you'll just wait until morning... I can clean up everything, nobody will know what happened..."

"I'll wait," Yunho promised, his voice void of any emotion, "I'll meet you in the morning... Behind the stables."

"Alright," Jaejoong agreed, clutching the clean shirt to his chest as Yunho exited the room.

Jaejoong lied back down, still holding the shirt and looked at the wooden ceiling of his room, absent minded. Every single thing that had felt weird about the hunter was now coursing through his mind, every hint, every word Yunho had said. The growls, the talk about not being able to return home, having to kill, the way Yunho persistantly kept trying to stop himself from sleeping with Jaejoong. He had very clearly stated he liked Jaejoong just as much but like the night before when Yunho had just held him and shook, he had been trying to contain something that had finally came through that night.

The pain in his neck slowly subdued as Jaejoong lay there, thinking about everything. If there was one thing he was certain of - his lovely, handsome and perfect Yunho, wasn't exactly human after all.
