Sian had spent the majority of the afternoon deciding what to wear. She really wanted the night to be fun for Sophie. She’d had a shower then quickly got dressed in a long sleeve, short black dress. She blow dried her her hair all wavy then put it in a loose, bun and grabbed a pair of tan heels from Sophie’s closet. She heard the shower turn off, that was her cue to leave. She snuck downstairs and out the front door. She smiled to herself as she wandered down the road to Dev’s. She really was excited, even if it was out with Rosie they were bound to have fun. If there’s one thing Rosie knew about it was fun and Sophie needed a bit of fun. She stood in front of the floweers ouside Dev’s. She couldn’t decide... Sophie loved tulips and lillies but roses were more traditional.
“Shame to see a girl buying herself flowers” Sian rolled her eyes at the sound of Tommy’s voice.
“I know...that’s why I’ve gone and bought Sophie some” Sian replied with a smirk as she picked up a bunch of red roses.
“So who’s buyin you flowers then?” Tommy leaned up against the wall. He was a little too close for Sian’s liking. He did that sometimes and it drove her mad.
She stepped back for a second, “Tommy...all this banter and flirtin, it’s funny and we joke around and I know you like stirring the pot and messing with Sophie but you do understand that I am actually in love with her don’t you?”
Tommy stood awkwardly with a dopey look on his face. Sian knew she had stumped him.
“Ok then” She smiled as she walked past Tommy and into the shop.
Sunita was stood at the counter with the pricing gun, “Woah...Sian! You look lovely!”
“Aww thanks Sunita” Sian smiled embarrassed. She put the flowers down on the counter and took out her purse.
“So is this a special occasion?”
“Well...sort of. Rosie talked Sophie into a double date with her and Jason. Sophie’s not keen but I think it’s dead sweet so I want to make it special and get her flowers and all.”
Sian had sort of trailed off at the end, realising that she was massively over-excited and perhaps rambling. She looked up to see Sunita just smiling back at her.
“Well you know, if you’re gonna be proper romantic then you better take her these too” Sunita stepped out from the counter and took a box of chocolates off the shelf, handing them to the Sian. Sian’s eyes lit up as she went to take her purse out again.
“No, No...on the house” Sunita winked, “Just don’t tell Dev”.
Sian smiled and winked back, “Secret’s safe with me. Thankyou”
“Have fun!” Sunita called after her as Sian left the shop and headed back home.
Sian checked her reflection in the glass before knocking on the door. She could hear Sophie yelling after her inside to answer it, obviously not realising she wasn’t in. She waited patiently and knocked again. She could hear Sophie coming down the stairs, muttering to herself as she opened the door. Sian stood leaning against the doorframe holding the chocolates and flowers with a big cheeky smile on her face.
“What are you doing?” Sophie looked at her confused.
“I’m here to pick up my date. I’m a bit early, I hope you don’t mind”
A huge smile slowly spread across Sophie’s face as she realised how pleased Sian was with herself. She took the flowers and chocolates in one arm and grabbed her girlfriend with the other, “You....are....so.....cute” she squealed between kisses. Sian was glad to see Soph happy, her smile set butterflies loose through her stomach.
“You look beautiful, Sian” Sophie whispered leaning in and kissing her on the cheek.
As Sian pulled back she felt Sophie’s lips meet hers in a slow but passionate kiss. There weere those butterflies again. Sian’s knees were literally almost about to go weak when their kiss was interrupted again by Rosie.
“God no wonder Mum caught you two...you’re not subtle are ya!”
“No we’re not subtle, we’re in love” Sophie announced quite smugly as Rosie and Jason came down the path.
“And what’s all this?” Rosie questioned pointing at the chocolates and flowers.
“Sian bought them for me, cos she is the best girlfriend ever!”
Rosie hit Jason on the arm, “Well where are my flowers then babe?”
“Jesus Sian you gonna make me look bad” Jason whinged.
“Oh...my...God...speaking of looking bad, Sophie! You haven’t even done your makeup yet? Don’t worry, no need to panic...I’m here now!” Rosie grabbed Sophie and dragged her inside leaving Jason and Sian on the doorstep.
“Shall we crack this then?” Jason asked holding up a bottle of vodka.
“Definately!” Sian smiled as they headed inside.
Sian cut up a few lemons as Jason mixed their drinks. “Ta Da!” Sian smiled as she squeezed a couple of wedges in the top of the drinks.
Their glasses clinked together as they did a bit of a lame cheers. It was a bit awkward.
“You know you can go upstairs with the girls if you want.” Jason said, trying to break the silence between them.
“No, no...I’m doing this right, Soph’s not ready yet...I can wait”
Jason smiled and cocked his head a bit to the side like a confused puppy, “You’re like completely in to this date thing aren’t ya?”
Sian felt the blood rush to her face, “Well yeah”, she said a little embarrassed, “I mean, Soph and I don’t do this kind of stuff. People stare when we kiss in public or make jokes behind our backs so we usually just stay in...it’s easier” Sian realised she’d just shared way too much personal information with jason who had suddenly realised just what this meant for Sophie and Sian.
“Alright then” Jason announced rather excitedly as he knocked back the rest of his drink. “We better do this properly then!” He smiled, as he made himself another drink. “So...what should we talk about?”
Sian looked at him confised, “what do ya mean?”
“You know...while we wait for the girls...” Jason took Sian’s empty glass from her and began making her another drink as well, “See cos if Sophie was in to blokes and I was waiting down here with another lad then we’d probably talk about football. Do you like football?”
Sian thought for a bit, “Um....my dad used to take me a bit when I was younger, but I don’t really follow it anymore.”
The silence between the two was actually pretty funny, Sian was trying to keep a straight face watching Jason try and play his part when she heard a squeal which was unmistakenly Rosie’s,
“We’re ready!” Rosie sang as she and Sophie descended the stairs.
Sian’s heart literally almost stopped beating at the sight of Sophie. She was gorgeous. She came down stairs in a short red dress with a black blazer and some killer black heels.
“Wow....Soph...you look....” Sian stumbled on her words.
“Ahhhh I know how gorgeous is my little sis?!!!” Rosie squealed as she put an arm round Sophie
embarrassing her a little.
“Well come on Jason make me one of those” Rosie demanded, dragging Jason in to the kitchen and towards the vodka.
Sian was left staring at Sophie who slowly walked towards her.
“Soph...seriously you look....you just....wow”
Sophie couldn’t help but smile at the goofy look on Sian’s face. Sian was very rarely lost for words but when she was she was hopeless. She stuttered, she got confused and she would just stand there staring like a creep.
“Are you checking me out?” Sophie teased as she twirled slightly playing it up a bit, knowing exactly what she was doing to Sian. Sian didn’t even answer she just kept looking Sophie up and down, staring at her legs and following them up her body. Sophie reached out and pulled Sian’s hips towards her, lifting her hand to Sian’s cheek she pulled her in for a kiss.
“I’m excited for tonight, I wasn’t before” Sophie admitted, “but I am now. You look amazing and I LOVE my flowers and chocolates!” Sophie smiled, placing a quick kiss on Sian’s lips.
“Come on!” Sophie took Sian by the hand and was about to turn and lead them to the kitchen to join Rosie and Jason when she turned around quite suddenly.
“Although Sian...”
Sian looked at Soph, worried by the tone of her voice
“Just cos you buy me chocolates and flowers, doesn’t mean I’m gonna put out on the first date” Sophie smiled cheekily, “I’m not that kind of girl.” She winked as she turned and headed to the kitchen.
