Trying to give a quick run through of my awesome Chicago vacation thus far:
Thursday: Had the most god awful flights a person can ever have. On my flight to Atlanta, this kid behind me screamed and cried the entire way to Georgia. If I could have ejected him out of the plane, I would have. Upon descending into Atlanta, my ears refused to pop (due to complications from the cold I was trying to exterminate), and I had an extreme headache. Eventually land, make my connection to Chicago, and again upon landing I get pain in my ears. Except I am telling you it was the most EXCRUCIATING pain ever. I felt like my head was going to split open, and the tears coming down my face bespoke that. We land, and by the grace of God my suitcase is first off the rack. As I am rolling along, I stop to call my friend Eric to let him know I have arrived. I then notice the faint scent of poop. I turn to the left and there is a man POOPING in baggage claim right on the floor. I couldn't believe it. What a welcome. Hop in a taxi, meet Eric at Cheesecake Factory in downtown Chicago, get a free lunch, and then book it over to his apartment where we chill, drink beers, and watch basketball.
Friday: Eric has to work until later so I sleep in until about 9. When I wake up, Eric has text messaged me that it was snowing. I look out the window, and I about die. Not only is it snowing, but it's blowing in sideways from Lake Michigan. Eventually, Chicago will rack up 6 inches of snow. I tried going out in it by walking to the L and going downtown, but after briefly walking in the 20mph winds and having my face blasted off I went back to the apartment and chilled. Once Eric got home, made fun of me, and had some beers, we went off to Geno's East to have some Chicago deep dish pizza. Soooooo gooood. Our friend Krystal met us, and we then went to a bar called Dublin's and got shit-faced with a bunch of Eric's coworkers.
Saturday: After getting home around 4am, I was shocked when we woke up around 10 to get dressed for a day downtown. Eric decided we should walk the Magnificent Mile. We park the car at the John Hancock Center, and walk all over the place. We go in malls, visit shops, and grab coffee. I take pictures, and finally our friend Amanda tells us to meet her for lunch at Yolk (brunch). We hop in the cab, eat with her, and then Eric and I walk about 40 blocks back up the Mile. We hit Millennium Park with the huge Bean which was fun. I pulled a Mary Tyler Moore and twirled in the snow. Krystal met us again, and we went on the longest search for a Starbucks in history. Eventually, we get back to the car, and Eric takes us on a tour of Chicago (Sears Tower, Wrigley Field, etc.) We drop Krystal off at the theater, and Eric and I go to Bar Louie to watch NCAA basketball. Later we go home, change, pick up Krystal, and then bar hop. We go to this club called English which was a tad pretentious but fun, then to Dueling Pianos which was amazing, and finally back to Bar Louie where we preceded to get more intoxicated and make it another 4am sort of night.
Sunday: Easter today, and I observed with a prayer of thanks. Eric is still asleep and will be for a while. Since it is the Sabbath, I shall let him rest. I think we are going to go downtown again and walk around before he cooks me an awesome dinner since I leave back for New Orleans tomorrow.
