I was looking up Habeas Corpus, because my Con-law professor has a tendency to call on people and ask for exact definitions, and I came across "husband" in my dad's old (very distinguished-looking) Black's Law Dictionary.
Husband:
A married man. One who has a lawful wife living.
Etymologically, the word signified the "house bond;" the man who, according to Saxon ideas and institutions, held around him the family, for whom he was in law responsible.
