Today's subject line comes from an episode of MASH I watched last night, exclaimed by Hawkeye when being asked for help from several directions at once while operating (all the other doctors had the flu). It has nothing much to do with the rest of this entry.
This has been a very good morning! I spent it running errands by bicycle in gorgeous 80 degree sunshine. I went to the bank, which I am glad I can bike to, but they don't have a bike rack. So I park my bike in their grass and chain it to one of their signs, it seems kinda rude but I'm not there long and it's the best available option. Then I went biked to The Pharm (where the gym next door has a good bike rack) and bought kid-friendly wrapping paper, and also red nail polish because I've been considering painting my toenails for about two years now, and I think I actually might get around to doing it. Yeah, I know I'm weird. Then home again, to drink a large glass of lemonade and wrap the birthday gift for my goddaughter. Her mother answered my email last night and let me know their new address. Then it was off to the post office. The post office is a very short distance from home, but darn tricky to get to by bike. It's on a very busy, very curvy street with no shoulder and a higher speed limit, so I don't feel the least bit safe biking on it. I've tried out several ways to bike there without going down that street, and the one I'm using now involves a bit more sidewalk than I'd like, but it works. The post office also doesn't have a bike rack, but under the circumstances I forgive them. The do have a convenient support pole by the door which I chain my bike to. Once there, I realized I'd forgotten the packing tape, and had to buy a new role. Again. Mike and I go through more packing tape than I would think possible, in part because we send a lot of packages, but also because we keep losing it. I don't know where it all goes, our townhouse isn't that big. And I needed tape at the post office because I didn't have an appropriate-sized box at home, so had to buy one. Anyway, errands successfully completed, I biked to campus, left my bike at the observatory and walked to the student union to buy lunch. I'm really glad Subway is open this summer.
