[ALSO BACKDATED BECAUSE ROS AND I WORK AS A FLIST-SPAMMING TEAM?: Perry has just woken up in the infirmary after being knocked out by Arthur. It's probably been an hour or two since Arthur's post. He's not happy about being knocked out or being in the infirmary. He doesn't like doctors. :c As Arthur isn't in the immediate vicinity at the moment for ( Read more... )

my paradoxical warden, perry hates the infirmary, perry solves problems with his fists, acting like a dawsey, this whole rehab thing is retarded

WELL, WHAT THE HEY: AWKWARD SPAM stopthat_destro September 23 2011, 00:16:15 UTC
[Well, since Rex works in the infirmary, it's bound to happen. He's on gruntwork duty at the moment, which mostly means cleaning things and making sure all the infirm get their meals. So, he's wordlessly handing people their meals, mind on other things, like his sister's return, the weapons he's planning on building for Wanda... Normal stuff.

So, he's sort of half-zoned out by the time he gets to Perry's bed. He passes a tray over to him with all the love and care of a school cafeteria worker. Then, he does a double take when he realizes who the bed's occupant is. What the hell? Somebody beat him up?

Well, okay. Part of him's pretty happy to see that. The other part... not so much. It's weird. And awkward. And he doesn't like it.]

[Perry had protested staying in bed because, well, it just felt stupid. He didn't need to be in there. His knee was pretty swollen but Arthur's kick hadn't shattered it, and he didn't even seem to have concussion. He didn't need the bed. If he was honest, he was just ashamed. He should have expected something like that hit from Arthur. Eventually, he just stopped protesting. Now that the bezerker anger was gone, he was rational enough to realise that the sooner he complied with what the doctors wanted, the sooner he'd get out of here. Even if it grated against his pride.

He's half-asleep when Rex shows up with the tray, and someone standing by his bed startles him into alertness. He takes the tray, but when he sees who it is, he groans, wincing as his embarassment flares.]

[Damn it, now Perry sees him. It's so much easier to deal with all this... whatever it is over the Network. Why did they have to come face-to-face now? Rex grimaces slightly and walks off to grab a bottle of aspirin, returning to hand it to Perry.]

You should probably take tw-- [Wait, Perry's huge. TWO IS WHAT NORMAL PEOPLE TAKE.] Three or four. With your... food.

[SO NOT AWKWARD HERE, NOPE.]

[Perry presses his fingers into his eyes and sits up properly while Rex's back is turned. He's going to try to look as non-pathetic as possible. He takes the bottle with a snort. Three or four? Pfft. He takes a little handful and tosses them back, then starts poking his food with a fork.

...

Why does he feel the need to justify himself? He doesn't look at Rex, just muttering:] He cheated.

[What. Rex blinks.]

Who cheated?

[Somebody missed Arthur's little trip to the infirmary. IT WASN'T REX'S SHIFT, OKAY. Which is good, because he wouldn't want to treat Arthur's stupid clone ass.]

[Perry rolls his eyes, waving a quick hand at the bruised left side of his face and glancing at Rex.] The guy who got me stuck in here. My warden. It was a lucky cheap-shot.

[Rex eyes Perry's bruised face, the split skin where the gun had first struck.] What did he do, take a baseball bat to you?

A gun, I think. I was a little too busy at the time to stop and take a real good look. Fricking cheat.

[Pause. He's not weak, he's not weak.]

Broke a couple of his ribs though.

Your warden pistol whipped you? Is he going to get thrown in Zero or anything? [Rex just always assumes wardens are to blame.]

Hm. [Okay, so Rex likes the idea of Arthur with broken ribs. He kiiiiinda smiles at that.] Why were you fighting?

Probably not. I didn't die and I'm a big scary asshole who deserved it, right? [His voice is dripping with sarcasm. He has no faith in the system at all.] I doubt any of them are going to take it seriously.

He kicked my fucking door in. I didn't like it.

You can make them take it seriously. Keep pushing it, and they'll act, if only because they hate to look incompetent. [EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE TOTES INCOMPETENT IN THE WORLD ACCORDING TO REX.]

Why-- [Rex makes a face.] Your warden has anger management problems. At least you got the satisfaction of breaking a few bones.

[Which, given their history, Rex normally wouldn't be happy about, but he just. Hates Arthur. So much. FOR RUINING HIS IMAGE WITH HIS FACE AND SUPERIOR FASHION SENSE.]

Tell me about it. He's an asshole. If he hadn't had the gun, I would've had him out for the count in a couple more seconds. [Perry glowers down at his hands.]

Even if I did keep pushing it, they're not going to care. Not for me. [He scratches at the scabs on his cheekbone.] I'm huge, I've killed people. They're just going to say that if I got knocked out, I deserved it and pat my warden on the back for doing what he had to do and getting hurt in the process. [HE TOTALLY DESERVED IT. But still. Petty ranting, it doesn't have to be realistic.]

It's stupid. Did they even question your injuries? Ask you what happened? [Rex is fully aware that the wardens might not've had the opportunity to yet, but hey, he's not really interested in fairness when it comes to screwing around with the system here. Besides, scheming comes naturally to him; it makes it way easier to ignore the awkwardness.] You can turn the situation to your advantage. Put the wardens on the spot, rally some of the inmates. You know, show them we're not even safe from the wardens in our own rooms. It'll inconvenience the wardens, if nothing else.

[Rex has a point, except... that would involve Perry whining about getting beaten--even if Arthur had cheated--and that's not something that he can bring himself to do. Jacob Dawsey wouldn't approve. Perry looks down at his tray and resumes stabbing the unappealing food with his fork.] I don't know, man. One, I don't think the inmates would give a crap either. And two-- [He doesn't want to look weaaaaak. He trails off and shrugs.]

It's hard to motivate them, true. [He nods slightly, glancing away.] Losing a fight is a pretty lousy feeling. [And one that Rex is way too familiar with.]

I didn't lose. Using his gun was cheap. Guess I'm fucking lucky he didn't just shoot me with it. [Perry growls, stabbing the food violently and leaving the fork buried in it. He pushes the tray away from him. There's a long-ish pause before he actually admits:] I was stupid.
