So, I continued doing research today on the "Salmon" fiasco, and ended up on Wikipedia. I found this article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TheGreatHatsby Apparently it was instigated by my updating of LJ. The bot scans for new LJ (Or DeviantArt, or whatever) posts, and checks if the user has an AIM account. If it does, it pulls that screen name and matches them up with, I believe, someone else who recently updated. I got paired up with a DeviantArt user who is actually pretty cool.
It can only do this if you post publicly AND your screen name is public in your profile.
Many people were annoyed by this (And offended, on some instances), whereas I think this is hilarious AND brilliant.
It is, in fact, the ultimate RANDOM friend finder, if you so choose it to be. :D
