Do Small Casts Help?

Jan 14, 2004 20:09

Now, I don't know how many people play this game, but I am fully addicted to the coolness that is Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. I love the graphics, the dialogue and storyline, the playmode. The whole thing rocks my socks.

That being said, imagine my surprise upon really looking hard for some fandom for it.

Spoilers for PoP: SoT ahead. )

Hmm... I would have thought a small cast would lead to lots of Mary Sues in fanfiction, because "there aren't enough characters in the actual game!" (I've seen Sue authors use this excuse even for fandoms where the cast isn't very small.) And Mary Sues often lead to canon-female bashing if the Sue is going to be the love interest of a male character. However, I have noticed that the larger a cast is, the more likely there is to be a character that gets bashed really badly. It's easier to like every character when there are only two to choose from than if there are 10 or 20+.

Ah, true enough. I suppose if PoP fanfiction does ever appear, I should be expecting plenty of Mary Sues to come invading. Joy. Because when the fangirls start going, I suppose it doesn't matter that the Prince had wanted to marry Farah.

Bleh. That would probably make them write Mary Sues even moreso.

I've never played Prince of Persia sands of time... but I have played an older version of Prince of Persia- a computer puzzle game. Best-game-ever. (sadly it's too old it wont work on the computer anymore, but it was the coolest game. There wasn't actual fighting but I died a lot because the whole thing is a mind game)

I do believe I remember her character- I liked her. She wasn't a fighter but she was strong willed.

There isn't enough characters for her to be bashed by most of the Prince of Persia community so perhaps she'll be safe...

Perhaps.

Actually, Farah's a brand new character. The characters from The Sands of Time aren't the same cast from all the other PoP games. That's why Farah and the Prince aren't married or anything. Or why he went over and destroyed her home, enslaved her, and was the reason (along with his father) that Farah's father was killed.

The more I think about it, Farah must be the most forgiving game girl I've seen. All that, and she still falls for the guy. Sheesh.

Well, that happens sometimes. I really enjoyed PoP:SoT in the same way that I did Rygar:the Legendary Adventure. Similar games presentation-wise, so I haven't found fandoms for either one (...I literally *AM* the Rygar fandom). Maybe it's just better that way. You can write your fics and draw your fanart without having to worry about conflicting views. The only drawback is there's no one around to share with ^^;

Oh, btw, hi! ;)
